'IT WAS A GREAT DAY FOR ME': 2017 COMBO GUARD NOJEL EASTERN ECSTATIC TO EARN OHIO STATE OFFER



Rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 67 overall player in the 2017 class, Eastern earned his offer from Matta and the Buckeyes last week. Ohio State is certainly in the mix, along with “about 15 other schools,” according to Eastern. Michigan State is the unanimous favorite, according to the 247Sports crystal ball, but Eastern said he’s not in any rush to make a decision and that he plans to narrow his list down to “five or six schools” sometime by the end of the summer.

The Ohio State basketball coaching staff is busy on the recruiting trail as well. Andrew Slater of 247Sports reported that the Buckeyes visited four-star small forward Nojel Eastern (Evanston, IL / Evanston Township).

Eastern is one of 247Sports top 70 players of the 2017 class and is seen as the third best player in the state of Illinois. Combined with 2017 center commit Kaleb Wesson (Westerville, OH / Westerville South), the Buckeyes would have a promising front court with the addition of Eastern.

Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, Michigan State is the favorite to land the 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward – and he is set to visit the school this weekend. However, there is still plenty of time for Matta and the Buckeyes to win him over.

I really want Nojel. I love his versatility. He'd add an extra talent dimension and quality depth to the 1-3, right away.

I had a kind of feeling about Nojel and OSU ever since we offered and while I think Nojel likes OSU and loves Thad, I'm not sure everyone in his close circle feels the same. So that could be a major obstacle that pushes him to pick everyone's leader for him, MSU.

He hasn't visited OSU since he was in 8th grade. I hope that his visit this weekend is a really, really great one for him, shows him this is best fit for him, and he decides to, uh, follow his own heart, so to speak. :)
