Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Wow! You all know how much ndchimp bothers me, but this thread has become a mess. Grad is right that other celebrities and athletes have used their positions to promote their own agendas. Me, I personally like that Curt Schilling comments about ALS as my mother died from it. I have no problem with Charlie or anyone else using the spotlight following them to raise a little money for something they care about. I would rather them do that than have them tell me how to vote.

Some of you just need to shut the fuck up when it comes to shit you have no clue about. You're hatred towards CW just makes you look stupid. Go ahead ban me again (or forever) for this post but what I said needed to be said.
Giving him shit for doing something good is just childish.

Go to go with Chief on this one. The ND hate goes a little over the top at times.

Chief, your response is incredibly inappropriate and did nothing to convince anyone any differently about their reactions to the interview on ESPN.

In my opinion, as someone who consults to all of the major advertising agencies, His daughter is an accessory in that interview, which I would call nothing but advertorial. The message is nothing but an attempt to repair his damaged image.

The interview opens with the story that his daughter has a kidney ailment diagnosed in utero and develops a developmental disability later "but her parents never gave up." Charlie then tells us that other kids chase Hannah away when she approaches them on the beach (uh, in Indiana?), ostensibly because they find her repulsive (they say uuhhh")

In Charlie's eyes, life is always about Charlie, Chief. Listen to him carefully. Before you attack everyone here as you have, first listen to your hero's comments without your bloody Domer Homer glasses on.

When his daughter's development slows, "well, WE'RE just a little delayed". And then he tells us, "you kinda go through the 'why me?', the self-pity mode...they you come to terms with it and its time to move forward."

Uh, did Hannah come to terms with it Charlie? Is she aware that her development is slowed? What is her long-term prognosis? Is she happy from day-to-day? We don't know, because this interview is about Charlie and Charlie can talk about nothing else for very long.

You say that he is a tireless campaigner for this disease. OK, if this is true, then where is the description of this disease, how many children it affects, or of his efforts to do something to combat it? Where is an appeal for help or an indication of what anyone can do to get involved in combatting the disease or helping children who have it? Why doesn't he even mention the foundation he set up?

Chief, when you are interviewed on radio and TV, you always can shape the interview, especially when an interview is directed at a human interest story. LoKy and some of the other guys in media can come in here and confirm that.

Living outside the US, I haven't seen the interviews that Grad21 mentioned, but I saw two interviews that Flutie gave and in both cases, the interviews focused on the condition and what people could do to help.

I just don't see that in this interview and I don't think its because I'm wearing anti-Weis glasses.

Weis put together something for the Penn State game. Green towels were donated to all the ticket holders at the game this year. The towels had "Go Irish" on them I think, and then information regarding Hannah and Friends. It was a good way for the fans to show their support in the game, and also get awareness out about the foundation. It was a good move, Alumni have already helped contribute to the foundation so its had a positive effect.

That's a good story line and I think a lot of people would react differently if that was the story that had been told in this ESPN interview.

I'm sorry, I haven't gotten to see the full interview I think. I saw part of it on the ESPN website at http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/ncf/index
From the part they cut out there, it seemed to be all about Hannah and nothing to do with the team or further ND's recognition. Charlie and his wife just talked about Hannah's development and such, a spoke a little about the symptoms. Wish they would have had the full thing.

I fail to see how any of us has a right to criticize how someone handles such a situation. While I don't particularly care for him, I have no reason to believe Weis wouldn't give his life for his child, just as any parent would do. This is simply an inappropriate situation to criticize. Lord knows he gives us plenty of other thngs, please, let's focus on those.
