Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

I don't think people have given Weis enough time.

I say give him about two more years before he can adequately be judged.

Agreed, once he gets his own kids in there you can get a better idea of how good/bad he really is. Although, if he doesn't beat SC or win a bowl game next year I have a feeling his seat is going to start getting really warm.

2008 is setting up as the year for Weiss. They are already giving him a pass for 2007 it seems, but by '08 he's 3-4 recruiting classes into his regime and he had better start living up to the hype.

The interesting thing will be the media's reaction if he is just solid but not spectacular well into the years when it's "his" program. Someone will ask why he gets such a long time to get things right and TW got 2 years. The difference in their skin colors will be part of that question, I guarantee you.

I'm not saying that line of thought is right, wrong or indifferent but the question should, and will, be asked if he doesn't bring home some hardware by '08 or '09 imo.

OMG, ending the season with THOSE 4 teams? So basically ND's 2007 regular season ends in October and then they practice for two months for their bowl game. I'm just shocked they don't have Army or Coast Guard in there anywhere.

Well, you know what the say... Give Cheeseburger Charlie three months to prepare...

OK, what bugs me is that the media (and ND alums, fans, etc.) will even be thinking something's wrong if Weis is solid but not spectacular. Questions about skin color will probably be there, but if ND didn't consider themselves football royalty in the first place, they wouldn't be firing coaches over the results of one season and we wouldn't even get as far as skin color. Notre Dame could go 9-3 (hell, I'll even give 'em a bowl win in there) for two or three years and there would probably be rumblings that Weis isn't getting the job done. More so than any I-A school you care to name, ND fans seem to feel a sense of entitlement about the national spotlight and contending for a title. Even Alabama and Florida State aren't as bad as ND in this respect.

Can we have a bit of public disclosure here? Isn't it true that your pension fund has investments in fast-food chains doing business in South Bend, Indiana? A simple yes or no will suffice, please. :slappy:
