Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

In the mid-90's, I thought that the wins against Notre Dame were two of the greatest and most important in Buckeye history. However, in retrospect, I realize that those victories were no more important than beating, say, Washington State, or Missouri, or any other reasonably competent non-conference program. Those two OSU-ND games (and many other ND games before and since) exposed the Domers for what they really are: the Wizard of Oz, a bugbear, a paper tiger, the emperor without any clothes; in other words, a harmless irrelevancy that appears to be imposing only upon the most cursory examination, but is quickly unmasked for the fraud that it is. The most ardent ND fans still gaze longingly at the illusion, while failing to see the reality that lays behind - no one else is still fooled by the smoke and mirrors.

I only wish that Ohio State could schedule Notre Dame more often.... Other than that, who cares?

Did anyone see th 60 minutes on coach weiss?

Yes I did watch it. I am convinced now more than ever than we are the luckiest school in the country to have JT coaching our boys than some asswad like this guy. I was indifferent about the guy before the interview, now I think he's a total horses ass. Oh and if he gains any more weight they're going to have to build a bigger stadium to fit him in it.

Well, it's been said Weis is a genius. Take this gem from his 60 Minutes interview, "You know, it's almost like you get 'em as kids and they walk out the door as men."

Wow! I can't believe he figured that out on his own. It's almost like his players go to fucking college or something! :roll1:

And there was also this one, "I would not want to think that somebody's gonna out-coach me."

Alert JT.

Yes, thats wonderful, I'm glad you're still living in last season there

Heres a great article that I know y'all will love about coach Weis, there was a similar story last year when Weis visited a dying kid before the Washington game I think. As much as you guys like to dog on Weis, I don't see any articles about Tressel showing this kind of compassion.

Michael's Wish

Kevin Roche (South Bend, Ind./Batavia, N.Y.) -- It has been a long and emotionally draining year for the entire Napoleone family of Batavia. Almost a year ago, the youngest of the family?s four children was diagnosed with leukemia.
His mother Laurie said, ?To watch your child go through all that you have to go through and be hospitalized for weeks at a time has been hard, really hard.?
Michael Napoleone has undergone chemo therapy since his diagnosis, but like many cancer patients he has also had his share of setbacks, with one relapse in April and another in July.
His father Mark said, ?It seems like every time we got some good news, we got bad news.?
Then, just last week, Michael, his parents, and three siblings all received a much needed break away thanks to the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. The entire family was granted a trip to South Bend Indiana, the home of Notre Dame University and Michael?s favorite football team.
Mark said, ?Since he was able to walk, he would watch Notre Dame football on Saturday afternoon and put the helmet on and run around the living room playing the fight song every time they scored a touchdown.?
The family arrived in South Bend last Thursday. They were taken on a tour of campus and Notre Dame stadium. Michael was generously showered with gifts from the university including a replica jacket like the one Sean Austin wore as Rudy Ruettiger in the 1993 movie ?Rudy.?

Irish head coach Charlie Weis usually doesn?t entertain guests prior to game-day, but he did welcome Michael and his family to the football offices. The coach posed for pictures with Michael, and passed along a game ball and several souvenirs.

Michael?s favorite player, Jeff Samardzija was also on hand to sign Michael?s #83 jersey.

Lesson in Never Giving Up
Then came what Michael called ?the most exciting part--going to the game. There's nothing like game day especially at Notre Dame.?

The Irish scored first and much to Michael?s delight, it was Samardzija who put the Irish up by seven points, but after that touchdown, the Irish trailed most of the game.

Michael?s mom said, ?They were losing the whole game, and there were flat. They just didn?t play well, and then with 27 seconds left his favorite player scores a touchdown.?

Michael?s dad said it couldn?t have been scripted any better.

Mark said, ?You never give up, you?re not going to give up.?

Although the staduim action is exciting, the family also garnered a different kind of strength from a special place on campus simply known as the grotto.

Laurie said, ?It's just a beautiful place. It's a place for reflection. People were singing and they were doing the daily rosary in the evening and we went there each day and prayed and hoping for the best answers and the best direction for his treatment."

Another Wish Fulfilled
Having endured so many setbacks last year, the Napoleones' prayers were answered when the returned home to Batavia. A perfect donor match had been found and next week, Michael will head to Boston for a stem-cell transplant.

Laurie states, ?It may sound clich?, but it?s typical, the way the game ended with the Irish pulling out the win was like a little miraculous victory, and now, we?re just hoping for the same with Michael?s treatment.?

For Michael and his family?a miraculous victory like that would be the greatest comeback of all.

A bone marrow donor registry drive will be held Saturday, October 27 at Notre Dame High School in Batavia from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Michael's honor.

Already discussed. JT and the team spend countless hours at Children's Hospital in Columbus every single week, they simply choose to respect the privacy of those they interact with by not holding a press conference to announce their own greatness.

I'm sure the mother of the dying boy was very happy to have a gazillion national news and TV crews in her living room days after burying her son to talk about what a saint Charlie Fucking Weis is.

GPA Dryden.

I think there's a biblical passage that says something like "don't do like the hypocrites do, they go around trumpets blaring when they give to charity. Don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing"

Or something like that. I guess I won't be founding a religion anytime soon.

From the book of Matthew:

6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Notre Dame SOS, history, Charlie's weight, opinions (not football)

I just split off 181 of the 456 posts in this thread and sent them to the Reference Locker under the tile "CW/ND/NDC Flame Fest". No link - find it yourself, if you are really that interested.

This thread is supposed to be about Notre Dame football in 2006, and not about last year's Fiesta Bowl, Weis' weight, whether CW or JT has visited more sick kids in hospitals, etc. Please try to keep on topic. If you want to engage in name calling, chest thumping, joke telling, or anything else not relevant to ND football in 2006, then take it elsewhere.

And while we're at it, try to show a little bit of class toward our ND guests. While NDC (in particular) can be annoying at times, he is not (usually) a flamer or troll, and he obviously wants to be here (for whatever reason). So, cut him some slack, and remember, personal attacks against any member of BP (even our ND fans) may subject you to a warning or infraction.
Why do we have a thread for NA that only blows sunshine up it's ass then? They have wealthy fans that can afford to make their own website.

I think CW is an A-hole. It isn't because he coaches ND - it is because of things he has done.

Next year I look for ND to struggle. They play the meat of their schedule early and that is difficult with a new QB. CW will take some serious heat.

But ND is recruiting well. 10 players last year rated in the top 10 at their position and four more so far in this class. They will continue to get better and in a few years may be a legitimate NC contender.

If/when ND turns that corner will will hear a cry from Domers of "I told you so" and demands for apologies.

You wont get one from me because no matter how much he wins CW will still be an A-hole.

Apparently, you only see the two extremes...namecalling BS or blowing sunshine.

Most normal people can have a conversation and even a disagreement/debate without doing either.

That is the intent here. If someone doesn't like ND or this thread, that is their choice and their right. I would simply suggest avoiding the topic as it is also our right to run this site the way Clarity and the Administration has outlined.

No harm, no foul. However, the expectations are now known by all.

There shoulda been a "like it or not" before that sentence

What if we cant speak of Notre Dame without having an episode of tourettes :wink2:

Can we have a "I hate Charlie Weiss" thread? And not mention ND in it?

No I am not being difficult, just lightening the mood.
