Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

In 2003, Washington came to Columbus with two Heisman candidates in Cody Pickett and Reggie Williams and were ranked in the top 15.

In 2002, Washinton State came to Columbus with a Heisman candidate in Jason Gesser and ranked in the top 10.

In 2001, UCLA was a preseason 15 (AP) and 17 (Coaches) ranked team.

As I said, not teams that will make fans from other teams watch that game.

And now, to return once again to the thread topic, did anyone notice what happened in the Notre Dame game yesterday? Where did all that promised "smashmouth" go?
Are you trying to draw attention from OSU's poor offensive performance from yesterday, cause ND was able to put away their 7 loss team well enough :wink2:
Actually, I've kind of accepted the fact that, despite our offensive line having some guys with serious experience under their belt, they just do not open up the holes well for running plays, at this point the team is a passing team and thats about it. I'd like to run the ball a few carries more each game, but I'm waiting for James Alridge to get his chance to start. I think we need another back that will hit the hole hard and break a tackle or push the defender back to get an extra yard or two after the initial hit.

Yet, UNC gives up 100+ more yards/game than Illinois...and I didn't see CW calling off the dogs in the early 3rd quarter.

Perhaps he was trying to draw attention from his team's underperformance this year?

The first game ND was in control until the muffed punt and even last year game many of you were ready to shit late before they showed the flag on Zibby's return.

Keep at it and you guys will convince yourselves you actually won those games. They can then go down in ND lore with Heavy Weissen's signature win vs USC in '05.

Come on Mili are you really trying to compare Arizona, UCLA, Washington and NC State to the likes of FSU, TENN, Nebraska and Oklahoma? Some year's yes but overall ???

Where did I compare those specific teams? I said conference. My point about Penn State's and Miami's dropoffs after joining a conference proves that. If you were to join a conference you'd play the biggies of the conference every year, not just a select few years. In this decade you've gone 12-9 against Big Ten teams, including 3-3 against the Big Two (3-2 against Michigan and 0-1 against Ohio State). My math says 12-9 equates to three 4-3 conference records. Since we play eight conference games, we need one more for each season, and since 12-9 is closer to 2-1 than 3-0 or 1-2, let's give you that 2-1 record for an addition win in two seasons and a loss in the other. So, you'd finish--on the average--with conference records of 5-3, 4-4, and 5-3 (or any other order you choose). Not very impressive I'd say...

No touche' there at all! I thought ND woud lose 2 regular season games this year. Next year maybe 4 and then a NC contender for a year or 2.

Yeah, chief, Mililani wasn't the one referring to them. I think your statement should be addressed to Bucklion. It was only last night at 11:30, but its already 2 pages back :p

Uh, actually I brought them up because they play in the same conferences that your supposed powerhouse schedule from last year played, but keep trying.

Ahhhh...ok? So they play in the same conference as another team we played, but why would that make them worth mentioning? Most years I would consider Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida State, or Tennessee tougher opponents than a team like UCLA and definitly Washington. So by listing those teams in a PAC-10 setting, aren't you supporting my argument that a conference schedule could lead to an easier path for a bowl game?

I'll concede that UCLA may have a good year hear and there, but people don't often look forward to a game with the Bruins (Not last time I checked anyway). The idea was to boast teams we've played in previous years with storied histories and get national recognition a decent amount of the time. My point was, aside from the 1-3 military acadamies we play each year (Depending on the way the schedule falls), we normally don't have too many cupcakes outside of that. North Carolina may be the only real cupcake outside the military academies this year, unfortunately we have all 3 this year though.
