(12-21) 11:10 PST NEW YORK (AP) --

The New York Yankees finalized their $4 million, two-year contract with second baseman Tony Womack on Tuesday.

Womack, who gets $2 million annually, hit .307 with five homers and 38 RBIs last season for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 35-year-old set career bests with a .349 on-base percentage and a .385 slugging percentage.

He replaces Miguel Cairo, who started at second down the stretch for the Yankees. Womack's deal was agreed to Dec. 7, but was subject to a physical and finalizing contract language. <!-- END STORY -->
