A good point. It's not exactly hard to run the ship when you have that kind of supporting cast. Luke Fickell had the walrus as an OC.

This is a very mixed bag story for me. On the one hand, Day is clearly going to get paid big time to be a HC this coming off season unless they can lock him down with either a promise like this, or a giant pay raise, which so far he seems worth every penny of any hypothetical pay raise. On the other, this suggests Urban is a lot closer to hanging it up than I (and probably most fans) would like or expect, at best. At worst, it means senior folks within the University evidently want Meyer out sooner than later, and see this as the "polite" way to push him out, given what happened this past off season.

Not sure whether I like this story or not, really.

Pay the man 2 to 3 mill and give him a head coach in waiting role. If he still leaves like Texas dude it's fine but do everything you can to keep him just for what he does with the O and QBs

Yeah not sure this is a great sign as far as things with UFM go. I love the idea of keeping Day, but like others say its hard to know how he'd do building his own staff and roster.

I think there’s a decent chance Wasserman is being his typical jackass self and running with speculation from an influential person.

We all saw the huge pay increase and promotion Day got this year. Obviously Meyer wants to keep him around.

We all saw how pissed Meyer was at the press conference and speculation about him being disgruntled is rampant.

We all saw that Ryan Day won three games as the head coach.

Combine those three things and the speculation about coach in waiting is obvious.

Whether it’s actually true or not... or how serious any discussions are... or the exact nature of any discussions is undetermined. And I have less than zero faith that Wasserman has the ability to accurately find out or relay that information.

But hey, he got his click bait headline.
