LB C.J. Hicks (Official Thread)

Makes me chuckle when a writer poses this kid could end up a safety... He'll be 6'5 240 lbs by the time he steps on campus... Man would I love to see us w a safety that size...
Opposing teams running deep crossing patterns would be sued for liability and malpractice

Yeah, but opposing teams wouldn't be running cross routes; they would set up a formation/motion to isolate him on guy that can run a 4.4 on a "go route".......

BOOOOOMMM! As mentioned, very much expected but such a huge addition and one of the top athletes in the 2022 class. I believe it has been quite some time since we have had a LB come from the 937, as a Dayton-area native I love it. I believe Spitler was the last Dayton-area LB we've had, with Freeman and Hawk before him. Obviously we have had some great LBs come from that area. I know we have a soft spot for Ohio players in general having special powers, but for some reason I especially love to see an Ohio LB excel.

With respect to Hicks personally, obviously just a very talented player and seems to intellectually understand the game. I see him growing into a pretty rangy and big LB in the mold of Harrison/Perry, but he possibly could grow into a DE or possibly slide down to DE on 3rd downs. Wherever he ends up, we are getting one heck of a player. Welcome aboard CJ!

- Side note: One of the articles in this thread mentioned the outstanding job Day and the staff have done on locking down top Ohio recruits early in the process. That could not be more spot on...we are basically landing every single top Ohio target that we want (on top of getting major out of state guys). You love seeing that, especially when I think we all wondered how Day would hand recruiting in-state.

“Kid is really talented,” the recruiter began. “He is so athletic for his size. I like him as a Will linebacker at the next level. He runs to the ball really well. I think his best football is ahead of him. Once he gets to Ohio State and concentrates on one position and works in a good strength program you will see. Kid has a high ceiling.”
