RB DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum (transfer to Kentucky)

There’s a comfort with the people at Ohio State, but for much of the last few months, there’s been one underlying concern for those close to Trayanum: Whether or not he will actually stay at running back if he were to choose the Buckeyes. He’s been to Ohio State so many times that there’s nothing new he’s going to see on any visit, even an official one, so the entire focus on the trip was simply to get closer to the coaches and how he feels about their plans to deploy him on the football field.

Beyond that, some kids just don’t want to be half of a two-part recruiting class — even when their first offer is from their dream school like Ohio State was for Trayanum. And there is no doubt that the Buckeyes are going to take multiple running backs in 2020.

That’s why Arizona State, Penn State and Wisconsin have emerged as real threats to the Buckeyes right now. And that’s why, even coming off the visit to Ohio State, it feels like Trayanum is torn between the school he has dreamed of playing for his whole life and other opportunities that may present him a chance to be The Man much earlier in his career.

Bottom line? Don’t assume this one is going to end as most Ohio recruitments do. There’s a very real chance that Trayanum chooses a school other than the Buckeyes.

Another guy who comes to mind is James Wilder Jr. Most schools wanted him to play LB but FSU told him he could play RB. He thought he was going to prove everyone wrong for saying he wasn't a running back. So in three seasons at FSU, he rushed less than 1,400 yards and never did anything in the NFL.

Quavarious Crouch, a kid who ended up signing with a Tennessee was a top 3 recruit at RB and made the business decision to switch to LB during the recruiting process. He did so because he knew it would extend his career and provide better opportunities. But I can’t fault a kid like Deamonte for getting on himself

I agree...I can't fault him at all. I just feel like the kid would be another Baker ore Myles Jack if he focused on playing Linebacker. But I wish him nothing but the best wherever he goes and whatever position he plays.

Impossible not to see that comparison imo...has Baker written all over him and I really think he would excel on the defensive side of the ball. Plus, RBs are a dime a dozen anymore, get your money playing at a more valued position.

I've got to give a lot of credit to Deamonte here. He knows he wants to play RB and just wants an opportunity to prove he can. If he isn't going to get that chance at tOSU, it'd be better to look elsewhere. Also, a lot of credit to Ryan Day and the OSU staff. It has to be tempting to tell the kid whatever he needs to hear, just to get him to sign, even if they know hes never going to play RB there. Nice to see the staff being open and honest with kids, even if it costs them commits from home-state studs.

If you are as good at RB as you think then come in and compete as RB 2. OSU has a clear track record of "best player plays". Recruiting rankings go out he window once you show up on campus.

BOL to the kid wherever but if OSU will take him as a RB, the presence of another tier 1 kind of guy shouldn't throw him off.

Additionally you have the demonstrated efficacy of keeping the hits moderated by having a couple of guys split carries.

Deamonte reminds me Dorian Bell .... Dorian Bell would probably be the number 1 OLB in the nation in the spread era as well they both had similar sizes going into there senior year but Trayanum is Stronger while Bell was faster ... but there films match ..... Dorian looked like he could have been A Great RB in college also
