2018 OH DL Aeneas Hawkins (Penn State Verbal)

“I’m just going to stay patient,” Hawkins said. “It could happen soon, but I’m not pressured into making anything official.”

Hawkins plans to continue his visits.

“I will visit Michigan, UCLA and USC soon,” he said.

Hawkins had seemed to have Ohio State, Penn State and Cincinnati at or near the top of his list. But things now seem more open than ever.

“I am reconsidering about ten schools right now,” Hawkins said. “Those three are even with the rest.”

Who would you say is muddling things up the most for us for Aeneas? Fickell and the Bearcats?
OSU being very selective with the DL prospects they want to take moving forward. You have an elite DT in Vincent and an elite DE in Cox. OSU is in the game for guys like Micah Parsons, KJ Henry, Tyreke Smith, Stephon Wynn, Jayson Oweh, Daniel Carson, Matthew Jones, Tommy Togiai, etc. Parsons, Henry, Smith, Wynn, Oweh and Jones are guys I think you make a spot for at any point. But the hard 25 class size means they have to be very careful with spots moving forward. I feel like they can realistically get Parsons, Smith, Oweh and Jones. If they did, that would be 6 potential DL, depending on where Jones ends up. Does that leave room for Hawkins? I don't know the answer to that question. Granted you have OSU losing Michael Hill, Tracy Sprinkle, Tyquan Lewis, Jalyn Holmes and [most likely] Sam Hubbard. Fickell has done a great job of making Hawkins a priority and it helps them that his father played there and they are the hometown school.

Not taking anything away from UC.

Sounds like the staff is in a position to land him if they push hard..... but they aren't pushing all that hard. Just enough to stay in the game.

That's just a casual observation and could be way off.

UC has a legit shot here. Ultimately I believe it will be Ohio State. Kerry Combs has built a nice little pipeline out of Moeller and his relationship with Rhodenberg. No 'inside scoop' here. But I do know a guy who played at UC with Artrell.
Though I'd like to put Hawkins in this class, based on everything that @wadc45 stated, I have to stand with him and agree. I dont think that Hawkins is a priority as much as the other guys on the DL board. And I think to remain elite, Urban will continue recruiting nationally. And if the class ceiling is 25, getting 8-9 OH guys may be the most we ever see in any year, unless OH has an exceptional year.

See,
When an Ohio kid has 4 stars and offers from Bama and USC, I see him as a 'national' kid. And when a national kid is in your home state, I consider that a priority. But that's just my opinion and bias.

I guess we'll see in the end who th staff agrees with...
I hear what you're saying, but like Urban has stated before, he will go after higher rated kids OOS first and then go after in state kids. Obviously he has made several in state kids a priority (Carman, Gill, Smith, Gant), but a number of others seem to either be slow played or wanted to be evaluated further. If Hawkins wants to wait, I'm sure that eventually he may be a Buckeye, but like @wadc45 said, there are some OOS guys that the staff seems like they want more. And what seems like a knock on Hawkins as well, is that he has no true position in college either
