OL Avery Henry (Official Thread)

I will trust the coaches evaluation of this kid and not yours since this was your evaluation of Dawand Jones.

You do realize that Dawand was a project and was a plan b at the time? And I said he needed 2 years at least to produce, and time to learn technique, isn't that what he needed? He was a large mold of clay, so not sure what I said was wrong. Henry fits the plan b type of guys that haters of Stud have knocked him for only getting(and Dawand fits that). But hopefully you can also pull my recent post where I stated that Stud is a great developer of talent and if he is able to hit on 2 of: Leroux, Toutant, Michalski that the view of his recruiting would change.

2 years of development to become an all-American caliber Tackle? I’ll take that every time! Even for a blue chip 5 star.

As would I, so not sure the point in going after an old post where many agreed with at the time. 2 years at minimum for Jones to produce quality PT(I evaluated that), needed to lose weight and learn technique, which he did.
OSU got Jones because we didn't get Nester, he was a plan b, and there's nothing wrong with that. But they're harder to predict than higher ranked players.

I'm hoping that Henry is given the same patience to develop, and can also keep his weight down and also learn elite technique. I also hope for the same for the other guys who many consider products that Stud "settled" on.

Yea probably year 4 and 5. But he can be a good leader barring coaching changes.
I'm here for that, and would even hope for a faster trajectory.

He’s lost a lot of weight, looks like he could be a late developer.

New ISU commit Avery Henry reshaped his body over the last nine months
Jun 20, 5:36 PM
Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell often talks about wanting his players to strive to become the best versions of themselves they can be. It’s one of the pillars of the program he’s helped build in Ames. For new Iowa State commit Avery Henry, he realized he couldn’t be at his best unless he made a change. And that change ended up being a contributing factor in Henry landing an Iowa State offer, an opportunity Henry took on Sunday.

At the start of Henry’s sophomore season last fall, the 6-foot-6 offensive lineman weighed around 355 pounds. If you turn on his junior season highlight tape, you’ll see a big-bodied lineman who dominated in the trenches with his size. Although his size was an asset, Henry felt like something was off as he progressed through his junior season.

"I felt like I couldn't be the best me being that heavy," Henry said. "I wasn't fast enough. I couldn't move my feet fast enough and things like that. So I knew if I wanted to go to the next level, there were some sacrifices I've got to make.”

Late last fall, Henry committed himself to a body transformation. The first change the offensive lineman made was with his diet. He went from an unhealthy diet to eating chicken, rice and vegetables on a daily basis. The rising senior credits his mother as his biggest supporter through the change. His mother made healthy meal-preps so Henry didn’t have to think about what he was going to have for a meal.

At 6-foot-6, Henry has excellent height and length for an offensive tackle. His film shows plenty of athleticism, which should only improve now that he’s in better shape and will begin going through Ohio State’s strength and conditioning program.
