OH QB/CB Zach Collaros (Cincinnati signee)

Not trying to rehash things or act like a Monday morning quarterback and say we should've gone after him, but I'm just wondering if anyone remembers back to the '07 recruiting cycle and why we didn't show interest. Pryor was a year away, and the Smith era was over. I think Boeckman's '07 season caught everyone by surprise, and he was a junior then anyway, so it's not like we were exactly set by any means at the position. Again, I'm not bringing this up as second guessing or anything, I just didn't discover all these recruiting sites until the '08 cycle (so the '07 year) and missed who we were really targeting for the '07 class and all that.

No need to get on him. He is just one of many former Ohioans that wanted to play ball for the Bucks. I still believe he could've been a major player for Ohio State. It's just unfortunate for him that there is a guy named Terrelle Pryor. (whom which I think he outplayed in his limited time). Time will tell, and I think Zach is in for big things this season and next.

Actually, there is. Out of the thousands of kids who'd do anything to play for Ohio State but just don't get the chance, virtually none of them publically make statements such as "I swear I'll never walk into that stadium (at Ohio State) unless I'm playing against them." So much for his being a true Buckeye fan...

And who, rather than simply accepting that our coaches didn't see him as a good fit here, chose to be offended by the lack of a scholarship offer and to engage in a bitter diatribe in a newspaper interview.

I don't hate the kid, but I don't waste any time feeling sorry for him. His attitude could use some adjusting. He and LaTwan - two peas in a pod.

That's a low blow man. This young man may be bitter, but he's no LaTwan Anderson. I think an apology is in order.

Am I reading you correctly that you think Collaros has outplayed Pryor? Collaros the so-far career backup with 4 starts and ~1400 total yards? Hey, glad to see your hometown boy is doing well at a BCS-ish program, but Collaros is a guy who would never have seen the field for the Buckeyes, except maybe as the holder (which he has also done at UC).

No kidding, but then again this coming from someone from Steubenville so I doubt we're getting the most objective of opinions here.

If Collaros had been in the recruiting class of 2004 or 2005, then maybe you'd have a point. I've long said that Ohio State needed a better "bridge" between Troy and Terrelle than Todd Boeckman. I still don't think that Collaros would have been the right guy, but at least you could make that argument without sounding silly (not that you are making that argument - I'm just saying). Xavier Lee or Robert Reed - both in the class of 2004 - would have been perfect for that "bridge" role, but that's another discussion for another day.

But Collaros was in the class of 2007. Even at Cincinnati, Collaros red-shirted in 2007 and saw very limited action in 2008 (appeared in eight games, mostly on special teams; rushed 6 times for 29 yards; completed one of four passes for 2 yards). I don't see any way that Collaros would have seen the field at Ohio State in 2007 or 2008 when he didn't get any meaningful minutes at UC. And by 2009, of course, Pryor would have been "The Man" regardless of who else was in the system. Bottom line - Collaros would have been a five-year bench-warmer at Ohio State, essentially Joe Bauserman with dark hair.
