2025 OH TE Luka Gilbert (Miami, FL Verbal)

He’ll be dangerous in a tackle eligible play. FWIW, when I saw his measurements, I thought of Fragel immediately too.
LT at 6'7 and a few biscuits away from 300+? Winning formula if past results play out. But a lot of time to see where he pans out, but I would love to see him declare eligible as a receiver if he ends up at OT. Kid is a great athlete and will thrive wherever he plays.

Ohio four-star 2025 tight end Luka Gilbert has built a strong relationship with Ohio State over the past few months.

The 6-foot-8, 233-pound Lakota West tight end visited Columbus in June for a camp to workout with tight ends coach Keenan Bailey, then returned on July 28 for Ohio State's SummerFest recruiting event to continue to form relationships with the coaching staff and fellow recruits.

“Back at the camp, it was a lot of drills and learning techniques,” Gilbert said after his July 28 visit. “But (the July visit) was more like building relationships with the coaches and some of the players I might be playing with in a few years. You never know.”
More visits should be on the horizon for the in-state product, as Gilbert says he plans on getting to “a couple of home games” at Ohio State this fall, though he doesn’t have dates set in stone yet.

In the meantime, Gilbert will open his junior season on Friday when Lakota West takes on St. Xavier. He hopes to apply the skills he sharpened this summer and carve out a fruitful season for himself in the 2023 campaign.

“I think I got a lot better on my route running and catching. Obviously, I’ve been working a lot on it,” Gilbert said. “I’ve been working on it three days a week with a private trainer outside of practice, and I’ve been working on blocking sleds, so I think I’m trying to perfect every single aspect of the game.”

Stats are lacking this year like I previously thought they would. In games, he has
9rec 97yds 2TDs
Not setting the world on fire, but his size is going to make him one of the most intriguing prospects for all of 2025 for OSU, IMO. At 6’7 235lbs, he still looks skinny:

He’s an old article on HS TEs who made the transition to college OL, and Gilbert can be better than them all, imo if he focuses on OL
https://247sports.com/Article/Forme...ers-thriving-as-linemen-in-Big-Ten-106435699/

With a lack of stats though, it allows us to see his blocking ability as he isn’t featured in the passing game

Hes driving DBs and LBs back and not afraid to get dirty! You have to like that willingness because that’s what he will need at OL. But best of all, he can get to the 2nd level quickly due to his athleticism, and has the ability to stay on his blocks. Just something to keep in your back pocket over the next few years. As i see him ceiling higher at OL than TE, but will he want to be an OL is the question. Because honestly, he can be a very good Heurman type TE and that’s still an NFL caliber player who can also be relied upon in the pass game. Very promising future

  • Four-star 2025 tight end Luka Gilbert: “The game day visit was incredible. The atmosphere in the Shoe was unreal. The noise level was off the charts and the whole stadium was in scarlet. Buckeye fans are definitely the best in sports! I had the opportunity to speak with several coaches and staff. They all are excited about (Lakota West’s) success. We have won eight in a row and are headed into our first Division I playoff game this week. They said just to keep doing what my team needs me to do to help win games and stay focused on our goal. Everyone at OSU has that winning attitude and that’s what we have at Lakota West as well.”

I like this post on 11W forums...

I got to see TE Luka Gilbert in person last Saturday. And I have to say he was probably the best player on the field. He blocks well, even inside in the run game. Catches the ball well and has some speed to generate plenty of yards after the catch. Lakota ran some screens for him that were pretty impressive. And his size? Holy shite. Kid looked like a giant out there. He is the real deal. And plays on a very well coached team. They will be a tough out for anyone in the playoffs. But this Gilbert kid is a future NFLer.

One of the best-looking prospect at the NextGen Challenge in Atlanta last summer, Gilbert was recently back at Ohio State and the Buckeyes continue to be the massive favorite in his recruitment. If he doesn’t end up with the Buckeyes, it would be a shocker as the 2025 four-star tight end from West Chest (Ohio) Lakota West has shown the most interest in Ohio State through his recruitment. It might be a while, though, as the word is Gilbert wants to wait until the late spring or early summer to make his choice.

Went to the Lakota West- Princeton game tonight. Watched Luka play, and he is HUGE! I mean the kid sticks out among every player on the entire field! He has a foundation to be a stud at TE, if he can keep his weight under control. Or even a star OT if he puts on weight and can keep it on to go with his athletic feet. He could be like a Reid Fragel type as a floor, or Jason Peters as a ceiling. But he needs a lot of work in blocking, he's willing, just isn't the best at locking on the defender and staying locked on. Many times the defender could shed him, though he had a great pancake that led to big run on the edge. He's going to be an interesting one to follow because what position will he become

Birm believes that OSU coaches are going to have a serious conversation with Luka about considering switching to OT sometime soon. By comparison to '25 OL, Nolan Davenport: he's currently an inch or 2 taller than Davenport and only 10lbs lighter. A business decision will need to be made, because it's not looking like Luka makes OSU's class as a TE

Feel like that means we know where Roberts is going...best of luck though, we won't have to play against him in a different conference at a school that won't be in the playoffs.
It also means, IMO, that OSU wasn't so sure of him at TE and thought he could grow into OT. Roberts and Schott have always been much higher on the board

Very well could have been the case, I saw him as a tweener that could keep his weight down at TE or just hit the gains and go to OT. Either way, good luck to him in Miami, there's worse places to spend 3-5 years of your life as a college athlete. We'll be good with Roberts.

Committed to U Miami

I've seen this movie before when it was called Michael Bush. See you at OT in a few years, Luka.
