WR L'Christian Smith (transfer to Cincinnati, transfer to Western Kentucky)

Really nice film, playing at a high level against good competition. Really surprised at how well he moves in space with his size. Film reminds me of Dwayne Jarrett (blast from the past). Really going to be nice to combine Smith with Grimes, talk about some size and athleticism on the outside.
And also Harris...:sneaky::lift:

"Things are good with Ohio State, and I'm keeping close contact with Coach Zach (Smith)," Smith stated. "I'm going there for their spring game, and I want to talk with them a little bit more about things."

"I've pretty much seen everything there I need to see, but I want to see about the tight end stuff from them," he added. "I want to make that clear that I feel I'm a wide receiver and that's where I want to play."

"I don't have any interest in playing tight end at all," he continued. "I think I've proven to everybody I'm a wide receiver, but maybe I need to show people a little more."

I don't see the WR vs. TE being a real issue for us...we will start him with the WR's and frankly, I do think he is more likely than not to stay at WR at the next level. If he grows out of it, they move him later but I think we want Ruckert and Ruckert alone as our TE in this class. Maybe it is because we are just out of basketball season, but I am hearing more and more basketball chatter now. I still think he plays football but his process has opened up more in the recent future. His spring game visit will be a big step in putting ourselves back firmly into the driver's seat and convincing him that football is his future.

Saw this the other day and meant to post it, but forgot:
“I am probably not going to be playing basketball next year,” Smith said. “I am going to stick with football. All of my skills and stuff came from part-time football and part-time basketball.

“If I am full-time football, who knows what I could do. It’s going to be football from now on.

Realize this will come across like sour grapes..........but that's not the case.

I don't believe the staff has pushed very hard. Perhaps because he wants to be a WR and the staff sees TE. Perhaps because he wants hoops, but this just didn't seem to click from the beginning.

Is there anything out there substantiating that the staff wants Blue to play TE? I may be wrong, I don't think they are asking him to do that like so many are speculating. He said they've only talked to him about WR and Zach Smith is his primary recruiter. Beyond that, when you look at the guys we've been recruiting at TE for the last several years, he's a different style of player altogether. He may grow into that position eventually, but I think right now he's a WR and there are others higher on the staff's board.
