WR L'Christian Smith (transfer to Cincinnati, transfer to Western Kentucky)

Is there anything out there substantiating that the staff wants Blue to play TE? I may be wrong, I don't think they are asking him to do that like so many are speculating. He said they've only talked to him about WR and Zach Smith is his primary recruiter. Beyond that, when you look at the guys we've been recruiting at TE for the last several years, he's a different style of player altogether. He may grow into that position eventually, but I think right now he's a WR and there are others higher on the staff's board.
I agree with you here. I haven't seen where Smith is mentioned as a TE, but IMO, his height is no longer a big deal after the 2017 class got the size they did. And Smith is not the highest WR on their board as guys like Babb, Moore, Dotson, etc. I'm sure Marrow at UK is selling Smith as being their centerpiece, and it helps having his teammate and also allowing him to flirt with playing for one of the top teams in CBB.

“It was a good meeting,” Lorenzo said. “It was kind of eye opening. They broke everything down as to where he fits, how much they want him there, and where he is on their chart. They put to rest the position thing.

”There has been talk, rumors and speculation the Buckeyes were not sold on Smith as a wide receiver and the option would perhaps be tight end. That was cleared up today.

“They see him playing wide receiver,” Lorenzo said. “He can also play H-back because of his size. Right now, he is (6-foot-6) 210 (pounds). If he comes in at 225 he could create mismatches with linebackers at H-back. But they are definitely recruiting him at wide receiver – that’s the No. 1 spot.”

Lorenzo said Ohio State remains No. 1 on Blue’s list and Kentucky No. 2. He said Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama and Cincinnati are also towards the top of his son’s list.

“Coach Meyer asked him when he wants to decide,” Lorenzo said. “He said before his first game.”

I think the hiccup in his recruitment (or perceived hiccup...I think we led all along despite the rumors) was from a simple lapse of communication. It is cleared up now and with a little love from the staff, we are firmly in the driver's seat. And it looks like the basketball is in the rearview mirror as well. I maintain that Blue will be in the S&G.

Sunday Recruiting Rundown: BOOM! Incoming?

Smith and his father took an impromptu trip to Columbus on Wednesday to visit with Urban Meyer, and had an "amazing time" while he was up there. I had a chance to catch up with Smith after the visit and he said that Ohio State has moved back to the top after the visit as he enjoyed his time with Coach Stud and Coach Meyer. I switched my crystal ball pick shortly after the trip and feel like the Buckeyes gave him the answers he was looking for. OSU’s wide receiver recruiting has yet to get started, and adding Smith to the fold would certainly be a great start.
