oo that explains why you love butler...:wink2:

mine is hes a damn good player.

did you catch the moorehead st game? did it remind you any of gary williams time at osu a little run and gun full court action there for a bit. that like you said is the strength and the direction this time i think will take this year, like you and i have throughly discussed. im gonna be out of town and wont catch another game till ill. hopefully all goes well. happy holidays.
Yeah I know I played against him, 3 times and I saw the best high school performance by anyone when he dropped 48 on O.G. who would have walked through the state tournament if not for Lebron James.

No I didn't get to watch the MSU game, but I did see Mercer and they sure looked good getting over the century mark. Well merry chrismas and a happy new year.

rest of the year

They seem great now because they've played mostly creampuffs. I'm seeing .500 creep up on us pretty quickly once we get into conference play.

After seeing what Iowa did to Texas Tech, and what Kentucky did to Morehead St., I'm not sure all those impressive wins are really that impressive.

We are better than last year, though.

Here's my optimistic prediction for the rest of the year:

St. Joe's (W 11-2)
@ Illinois (L 11-3, 0-1)
Iowa (L 11-4, 0-2)
@ Wisconsin (L 11-5, 0-3)
@ LSU (L 11-6)
Minnesota (W 12-6, 1-3)
@ Indiana - toss up (L 12-7, 1-4)
Penn St. (W 13-7, 2-4)
@ Northwestern (L 13-8, 2-5)
Purdue (W 14-8, 3-5)
Michigan - knock on wood - (W 15-8, 4-5)
@ Michigan St. (L 15-9, 4-6)
@ Penn St. - toss up (W 16-9, 5-6)
Indiana (W 17-9, 6-6)
@ Minnesota - it'll be close, but (W 18-9, 7-6)
Wisconsin (L 18-10, 7-7)
@ Iowa (L 18-11, 7-8)
Illinois (L 18-12, 7-9)

Right now, we aren't playing anybody. The main thing to consider is that this program needs wins and we are getting them even if it is against 3rd and 4th rate teams.

Thad Matta is doing an excellent job thus far, IMHO. He has cleaned up the sloppy product that Jim Obrien put on the court the last 3 seasons. This team under Matta plays hard, plays to a disciplined level within reason at least. His development of players, IMO thus far, looks to be unbelievable. Terrance Dials is turning into a beast downlow and could possibly be one of the best big men in the big10 this season and next season.

I think it will take a few years but I think eventually Thad could have OSU in the top 3 of the big10 for years to come. I think he truly wants to make OSU a bigtime program in BBall.

Jim O'Brien put a sloppy product on the field the last three years?

In 2001-02 the Bucks won the Big Ten and Big Ten Tourney. They finished the regular season 23-7, which is pretty impressive.
In 2002-03, he took a team with no depth, and nearly won the Big Ten Tourney. By no means would I say O'Brien was a bad coach.

O'Brien's Career
1997-98 8-22 overall, still using old players, developed Michael Redd
Scoonie Penn arrives, O'Brien flips the record around.
1998-99 27-9 overall, 12-4 Big Ten (2nd), NCAA 4 seed, Final Four
1999-00 23-7 overall, 22-5 regular season, 13-3 Big Ten (1st), NCAA 3 seed, got as high as #4 in the polls during the season
2000-01 20-11 overall, 20-9 regular season, 11-5 Big Ten (3rd), NCAA 5 seed, made a rebuilding year into a successful year, beat the #3 team in the country twice.
2001-02 24-8 overall, 20-7 regular season, 11-5 Big Ten (1st), Big Ten Tournament Champions, NCAA 4 seed, got as high as 12th in the rankings
2002-03 17-15 overall, 14-13 regular season, 7-9 Big Ten (8th), Big Ten Tournament Runner up, NIT, a team with no depth had to be led by Brent Darby
2003-04 14-16 overall, 14-15 regular season, 6-10 Big Ten, The team finished strong. It took a while for Stockman and Sullinger to play together. Plus, O'Brien couldn't speak for most of the season.

Until Matta takes the Bucks to the Final Four, or wins the Big Ten Several times, I wouldn't call him a savior.

I think he's a good coach, but all this O'Brien bashing doesn't make sense.
Remember, Matta is using mostly O'Brien's players.
