Game Thread Ohio State 23, Purdue 7 (final)

I hate to say this, since it always seems someone says this about almost every game, but I'm nervous about this one. Maybe it's because 2004 didn't go well, maybe it's because the last regular season loss was a night away game, or maybe it's because the dink/dunk offenses still seem to work better than they should against Heacock's D's. I also hate missing out on Saine. Beanie is obviously not good for 30+ carries a game, and Mo isn't big enough to break tackles. I think the Buckeyes win by around 10, but the Bucks better show up fired up.

Buckeyes 27
Boilers 16

By the way, what's up with the Ntre Ame joke? Is it one of those no "O" and no "D" things? I know, I know, I'm a clueless moron, but at least I'm not too timid to admit it.

I think that Jax and Dryden have nailed the keys for the Bucks, at least defensively. Eliminate the run, especially on first down. Force Purdue into obvious passing situations, and Heacock can roll the dice. It's tough to blitz spread option teams, which is why I think you didn't see as much heat last night. I expect to see more pressure against the Boilers. If the Bucks can force them into third and long, keep everything in front, and bust the receivers after the catch. The speed of the Bucks on D, along with the improved tackling, will be critical. Someone who I think will play a key role is Trapasso. If he can keep dropping punts inside the 15, and force the opponent into longer type of scoring drives, I like the Bucks' chances.

Posted: Sat Sep 29, 2007 9:31 pmIt will be an interesting game. I think Boeckman is marginal at best and if we force them to throw the ball we have a shot. If we allow Wells to run on us, it will be a long day.

Purdue had a tough time getting any pressure on the Ntre ame QB's. The same QB's that got sacked something like 25 times in the first four games. Considering how well Ohio State's OL has played, Boeckman may have all the time he needs to pick apart the defense.

I watched them play ND, so I would say that 68th ranked is very believable.

Doing anything short of a complete steam rolling of the hapless Domers this year cannot bode well for the legitamacy of a team.

Other things I notice when looking at Purdues game logs.

They kick an ass load of FG's in the RZ

They are not a great second half D(not a great 1st half either but the 2nd is much worse).

I just can't get past the feeling of calm confidence with this game. Don't help them and we should take care of Purdue just fine.

Im actually making the trip out to the game from c-bus. In all my years as a fan I have never been to an away game. Except for bowls. What should I know about West Lafayette?

Went there for my grad and undergrad degrees, so I know the town well enough. What is it you want to know? WL is a nice college town, though not as nice as AA or Bloomington. Good place to go for a few beers pre-game is Harry's in the area called The Village. There is an excellent Greek place in the same area (if it is still there). For anything other than a ND game, parking is not too much of an issue. However, the traffic afterwards can be hell as they have never learned how to manage it very well (or at least by the time I had left they hadn't). If there is anything specifically you are looking for, let me know.

GO BUCKS!

Purdue fans seem awfully confident going into this week.

That usually translates into lots of delusional whining & excuses next week after they get their asses kicked (dirty Buckeyes, dirty refs, woulda, coulda, shoulda...).

OSU-Purdue a premium game

Jim Naveau | [email protected] - 10.01.2007

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]COLUMBUS ? Maybe Purdue?s ticket office would like a do-over. You couldn?t blame them.
When season football tickets went on sale, Purdue tacked an extra $20 onto the cost of its home games against Notre Dame and Ohio State.
It costs $45 for the Boilermakers? other three Big Ten home games, but for this Saturday night?s game against OSU, it will cost $65 a ticket.
The way this game has shaped up, Purdue probably could have gotten even more money out of its loyal fan base and the always ready to travel Ohio State fans.
With losses by No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Florida, No. 5 West Virginia and No. 7 Texas, the Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) are ranked No. 4 when they go into West Lafayette.

Boilers eager to face Buckeyes
(Boilers eager to face Buckeyes :: Sports :: Post-Tribune)

October 1, 2007

BY MICHAEL OSIPOFF Post-Tribune staff writer
WEST LAFAYETTE -- So Purdue is 5-0 for the sixth time in its 120-year history.
The Boilermakers last started a season so well in 2004.
What happened then?
Ranked No. 5, they lost to No. 10 Wisconsin 20-17 on homecoming, initiating a streak of four straight agonizing losses on their way to a 7-5 mark.
The Boilermakers -- ranked No. 20 in the coaches' poll and No. 23 by the AP -- are hoping to avoid a similar fate this season, presented with a fantastic opportunity to author a signature victory when Ohio State travels to Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday night. The Buckeyes, also 5-0 after a 30-7 rout of Minnesota, moved up to No. 4 in both polls after a rash of Top 10 upsets -- not to mention a wild week in the Big Ten.
"It's a big game -- two undefeated teams coming into West Lafayette," running back Kory Sheets said. "I can't wait."

Purdue playing like two different teams

Sunday, September 30, 2007 2:42 PM CDT Post a Comment | Email this story | Print this story

By CLIFF BRUNT

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue has looked like a different team after halftime its past three games.

That's not a compliment.

In the first halves of wins over Central Michigan, Minnesota and Notre Dame, Purdue has outscored its opponents 78-3. In the second halves of those same games, the Boilermakers have been outscored 69-45.

The Boilermakers (5-0) will take a perfect record into Saturday's showdown with Ohio State. They likely will need to play well in both halves to remain unbeaten.
