Game Thread Ohio State 27, Iowa 24 (final, OT, 11/14/09) - Rose Bowl bound!!!

Really, nothing about Iowa scares me, as long as our D plays even an average game. Iowa should easily have 4 or 5 losses.
I hate when people say things like this? SHOULD EASILY??? Really...what games "should" they have lost? They "could" have lost some games. Just like we "could" have lost some games in 2002. The fact is, they won them fair and square.

I never understood why ANY TIME a team wins a football game by less than 7 points, then people automatically say that they should have lost. What you are saying by this is that if you lose by less than 7, then you actually deserve the win. Or maybe you think that both teams should have lost???

How about unless you win by more than 7, you get a loss?

Bottom line...Iowa SHOULD be just what they are 9-1. They did it all themselves. They kicked the crap out of Penn State, just like we did, at Penn State. They also have a bad loss, like we do.

When have the Buckeyes ever played like they did the week before? This team has gone though ups and downs, and they are going to need EVERY fan behind them all game, no matter what happens.

This game likely comes down to the 4th quarter!!! So make sure you get tickets to the game, and get loud!!!!! The Buckeyes are going to need every advantage they can get. It's not too often that you play for a trip to the Rose Bowl in your own stadium. And Iowa is playing for the exact same thing...they are not going to quit. Iowa will leave EVERYTHING they have out on the field Saturday, and the Buckeyes and their fans better do the same.

The main battles will again be what they were with Penn State -- our DL versus an OL that's not done the best job of protecting their QB, and our OL against a very capable DL. One difference is that Iowa has often gotten themselves into a hole with turnovers, which is why they have so many miracle wins. Stanzi gets them in trouble, then he comes and bails them out, sort of like a rich man's Tater Force. Without him, though, I can't see what they'll be able to do in order to move the ball. Is there such a thing as a zero dimensional offense?

I expect that the defense will either score, or will set up some scores that our "opportunistic" offense will cash in, and that Iowa's defense will prove to be a tougher nut to crack than Penn State's. We're going to need to win the turnover margin and play another classic Tresselball game, which is good. When both teams play Tresselball, the real Tressel typically wins.

This year, this is the last game.

Yep. We might blow them out this year worse than we did in 1969.

There is only one "The Game" and Iowa ain't it.

If we have a trick play that is the difference between beating them 35-0 and 42-0 it is worth saving for that purpose.

i think it will be a defensive battle...for 20 minutes, then our offense (or our d) breaks it out in the second quarter considering stanzi isnt playing. i think we will just run away with the game sometime in the second half because the iowa offense just could not sustain a decent drive without stanzi against nwestern. our d plays big like always and our offense keeps rolling.
31-7 final and smellin roses

-anyone else gona bring a rose to the shoe on saturday?

Umm....Steve? Check out the Big Ten tiebreaker rules. The Iowa-OSU winner is mathematically the Big Ten champion and can dance around with roses in their mouths. The race will, in fact, be over.

However, we should be the crap out of scUM anyway, just on principle.

We agree. I know the rules, someone had reminded us a few days ago, I think here on BP. But that was not my point.

What would Woody do? Would Woody be celebrating the Rose Bowl berth before beating TSUN?

If we deserve to beat Iowa and do, then there is something the Buckeyes need to do before they crown themselves Big Ten champions. It doesn't require the approval from ESPiN. Ohio State don't need anybody's approval except their own. And for that, they need two victories.

The last bloody thing we want to see is Ohio State fans dancing over the Rose Bowl nod and then get big heads and go into Ann Arbor and repeat the Purdue experience.

We want to see our guys go into Ann Arbor and embarrass TSUN. This is about the years when they laughed at Ohio
State and clamied that we were no longer their rivals.

This season is not over. We are not Big Ten champs until we bury TSUN in Ann Arbor, no matter what any rule says.

In coming years, it is possible that Ohio State will lose a game to TSUN, but this is not that year. If that day comes, I want to see their fans taking the field and pulling down the goal posts. I want them to know how special that day is and that it may not be repeated in their lifetimes. I want them to be in awe when Ohio State takes that field.

This team needs to badly want three more wins this year.

+1

scUM will always be the biggest game of the year. I would rather not go to the rose and beat them than go to the rose and lose to them. We need 2 more victories.

Agree...but this team needs to want THIS GAME as much as Iowa will. They wanted it more than Penn State did. Michigan is always in the back of everyones mind...but this game is in the front...and it's big...biggest game of the year so far.

I hope I didn't just read people taking recent success in The Game for granted.

This is the biggest rivalry in college sports. Both teams will be up for this. It's always the most important game of the season.

Not to mention the fact that Michigan will probably have a bowl trip on the line. They're going to give us their best game of the season, without a doubt.

Disagree with bold....but otherwise, point made.

So Iowa cheated to win 3 or 4 of the games the won...do tell. And if you are gonna talk about the refs, then don't, because the refs are unbiased and fair. Bad calls can go either way. Plus, people always speak of one bad call going against a team, but don't talk about the 2 or 3 that went for them. Case and point OSU vs Miami. Nobody ever talks about the bad no catch call, or the obvious hold that was missed, or the PI that wasn't called...all calls that went for Miami.
