Game Thread Ohio State 30, Minnesota 7 (final)

Yes we do like the Metrodome;
Blade Article
MINNEAPOLIS - Ohio State played in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome for the final time last night, and the Buckeyes are likely sad to hear that news.

They have owned this building, without ever paying a cent for it, and were on their way to extending that odd proprietorship last night.

In 11 visits here over the past 25 years, Ohio State has never lost.

I thought;
Beanie had a good game.
Trapasso had a lot of fun
Robo's catch was poetry in motion
Freeman had a very good game
The D was the D ( too bad they gave one up)
Glad to see Clifford.
Williams is even smaller than Mo
I think Jt ran the 2nd half with his RB position in mind or was that just Tresselball? lol
Small is geting bigger and bigger every game. (Did you notice the play on words there? :biggrin: )

Taking a lead from the game preview
Rushing
Coming in - Minnesota was generating 229.8 yards per game rushing. Last night, 45 yards total - on a night when that total was not further diluted by a significant number of sacks.

Passing
The Gophers were only slightly under their passing averages of 257.8, netting 232 yards by air.

3rd Down Efficiency:
A real key to the game in my view.
Coming in the Gophers had a golden 5th in nation 55.2% 3rd down efficiency rating.
Last night - they were held to 3 of 16 on 3rd down conversions, in round numbers about 19%. There was a stretch beginning at 3:45 of the 2nd quarter till less than 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter when they never converted any 3rd down they faced.
Stifling Defense? I think so.

The game wasn't as close as the score indicated. Tress shut it down.
Boilers can score , so we will have to go full throttle the whole game next week.

Agreed, hopefully we start clicking in the beginning of the game like we did against NW, last night the passes just seemed off until the second half, we had a few deep ball opportunities that were just lost due to over-throws.

Its kinda hard to get up in the metrodome. That place can put players to sleep. The humidity in that place is unreal no matter what time of year the game is played. I think this being on the road, at night, and at the metrodome really caused us to be a little dull on offense. I seen a graphic where 90% of the run plays last night were designed to run up the middle between the tackles...vanilla play calling. Tressel didn't show a single card besides the fake punt.

Again, what did our friend Urban Meyer say? When JT knows he's playing with bigger checkers, he is very conservative.

Purdue has the same type of fundamentaly weak defense next week. Look for a plain jane, smash-smash-smash-deep pass, 400 yd 30+ point type of thing.

Except Purdue has way more talent on offense and will score.
This will be an interesting game!
Once again - I remind myself of Taos' near perfect record as a contrary indicator :biggrin:

Just joshing you Taos - but go back and look at your pessimistic pronouncements on other games this year. Just keep on rubbing that voodoo rabbit's foot. :osu:

The boys looked a bit flat last night. Hopefully they will get back up for Purdue.

I agree their offense looks better on paper. Lets get crazy and say they score more than anyone else we have played...lets give them 17-21 points.

I will gladly take my chances that our O can do better than 21 vs their D.
