Game Thread Ohio State 37, Penn State 17 (final)

Things of note:

-PSU has struggled in KO coverage. We never get to do this more than once or twice a game but its worth keeping an eye on.

-PSU does a good job of punt returns.

-They are a very good pass rushing team. This is a key for the game. We will have to spread them out and throw to set up the run. Pass pro could be one of the big keys to the game.

Bottom line to me is still the blackjack principle as it has been all year. Score 21+ and we'l be fine.

Watch out for Derrick Williams

The have taken some hits to their "D" line recently and that could be a factor. Lost their best blocking fullback for the season. Could be enough to make a difference.
I think we win a close one.

Ohio State has won two times in Happy Valley since they joined the Big Ten in 1993. You can blame the crappy record on John Cooper, if you want. But Jim Tressel is 1-2 there.

Ohio State is going to have to go in there and quiet the crowd immediately. They are going to be as loud and obnoxious as they were in 2005. If Ohio State can get into double digits in points in the first quarter, and limit Penn State to minimal first downs (and zero points), I think Ohio State will coast to a victory. If not, it'll be a battle.

this is the toughest game left on the schedule.....i think if osu can defer and put the defense on the field first..stop them realitively quick and go score on offense...it would do wonders...but psu was a lot better in 2005...just something about this game has me worried....psu isnt great but they are streaky....osu must get off the field on third down defensively

I would like to hear your thoughts on just why PS will be harder than Scum, who incidentally beat PS? Who has the top rated Rb in the B10 and one of the best in the Nation, plus a qb who ,whether you like it or not, is going to play pro ball?

Is it just me or would you rather play in AA than Happy Valley? Tressel can get any Buckeye team up to play in AA, but playing PS is another story.

But I don't think you can compare this game to 2005. That Penn State team won the Orange Bowl...this Penn State team will not.

Penn State's 2005 team was about 10x better than this year's team. PSU worries me, but if we shut them down early and limit turnovers, I don't think we'll have a problem. Control the clock, limit the turnovers and just play Buckeye football and we will win.

I'll give MSU credit for the forced fumble on Boeckman, however, I won't credit them on the interception. Boeckman should've never thrown that ball in the first place. Either way, we still came away with the win and I think we'll do the same this Saturday.

31-10 Buckeyes.

I've watched Penn State vs. Wisky and Indiana... And scUM vs Purdon't and Illinois. I would take the trip to Happy Valley over one to AA. Penn State's back field situation is thin and they run up the center. We fill the gaps very well and attack the runner. Morelli has been given time to set up and throw... often come backs and flares to the side. OSU keeps pressure on Morelli and Penn State will have to have AM beat OSU. They're defense has thinned out, the LB's play tough, the D-Line is a bit damaged, and they still kept pressure on Kelen at Indiana. Their D-Backs were getting abused by James Hardy. A nice balanced attack by OSU like they've been playing should win the game... the 12th man is always a concern.

Great post.

I think that Connor and Lee will give PSU a chance to hold us to less than 21. The key is having a healthy Wells for the entire game. As versatile as Saine is, I don't think we have a back besides Wells who can bang into that defense at Happy Valley in a night game and get four or five yards a pop out of it.

And you know how games like this usually is: PSU does have legitimate big time players at the LBer and DL positions. After not playing well all season, the number one teams rolls into Happy Valley for a night game, and those players have the potential to play the game of their lives. Not that I think their offense is any good, but their defense can definitely keep them in the game.

Bottom Line... The only way Penn State stays in this game is if we turn the ball over... Cause straight up they're outmatched
not to call you out, but people keep talking about the turnover margin as being a "key" part to the game for OSU

I know it's an easy thing to say...don't turn the ball over and they'll win, but truth is, OSU is at +0 for the season in turnover margin and yet we're still winning, and rather convincingly.

If anyone does go to Happy Valley for the game, don't forget to pack up any used condoms and whatever other disgusting refuse you can dig out of your bathroom trash can, plus a truck load of Bubblicious, seeing as PSU's players have to clean up the stadium afterwards. :tongue2:
