Game Thread Ohio State 45, Michigan State 7 (Oct. 18)

I know that Wisky at night in Camp Randall is going to be a hard game... but this game seems like a trap. Though we dominated most of the game last year, they were still in it with those Boekman ints. I know Tressel's teams seem not to overlook any team.. but my most depressing day as a Buckeye fan occurred 10 yrs ago when our loaded team went up against Sparty... and Plexico (and some mistakes) dismantled our NC hopes. I sat in shock/horror in block o (closed end) with my cousin, who at the time was a student at MSU.

I'm just hoping history does not repeat itself here.

I hear you. This matchup is only gong to get harder, the longer Coach D has to build his program. Good thing for us is they lost some key players from 07, Caulcrick and St. Dic, most notably. Hoyer will be a question mark until he proves otherwise. They would have won their bowl game if it weren't for him. He was terrible in the 4th. Shutting down the running game didn't seem to hard last year, so I would expect the same. Could be a close game, but our guys are just too f'n good, and they will be battle tested by that time. I do envision MSU to be one of the toughest teams in the conference in the near future.

They gave us fits last year at home. What would make anyone believe we are "too good" not to be given fits again? They will be ready for us.

They had 5 good minutes. We held them to less than 200 yards. Their offense scored 3 points. I'm sure our players will remember last year. I chalk up the "fits" to Coach D getting his guys to fight, and our O-line spacing out for a few plays. Take away two plays and it was a slaughter. Every game on the sched is a potential trap, but a game from 10 years ago has no bearing on this season.

Well, last year we sort of shot ourselves in the foot during this game. They didn't get any offense off, we just committed turnovers at really bad times to let the game be closer than it actually was. I think Sparty will have a great year, but I don't think they are going to beat us this year.

Big Ten preview: Will Michigan State surprise?

by Doug Lesmerises Monday August 25, 2008, 9:02 PM

When Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer visited the Spartans' football headquarters in summers past to watch film, he said the place would be empty. This summer, not only did the senior from St. Ignatius High School have company in his football studies, the Spartans now have a new place to watch that film.

The $15.5 million, 25,000-square-foot Skandalaris Football Center sounds like it rivals Ohio State's Woody Hayes Athletic Center in opulence. Literally and figuratively, Michigan State has been laying a foundation for a new kind of football program. While the building was already in the works, the program's new attitude began with the hiring of second-year coach Mark Dantonio. Remember, with Dantonio by his side as defensive coordinator, Jim Tressel went 14-0 and won a national title in his second season at Ohio State.
