Without knowing the criteria for the Jack Tatum hit of the week, I thought Coleman put a pretty good lick on a guy.

Maybe it just hasn't been voted on yet and therefore hasn't been posted. Brandon Smith had a great hit on TPs run on the first drive. Also, Jamo had a big hit on a kick return.

yes, no better than 5-3.

3-1 now (the more that i look at this now, the b10 sucks...again)

@ IU-W
Iowa-W
@ NW-W
OSU-L
@UM
Wisc
Purdue
@ PSU

no Ill, Minn
They could very well win their next three. I'd probably put my money on 5-3, but PSU is the only bad matchup in that stretch. Yet they've been far more competitive than they should be against PSU over the years.

I see a 3-1 finish more likely than 1-3.

A few quick thoughts....

1) I think that we can put to rest the notion that Mark Dantonio's "schemes" were the reason (or even a major factor) that the Buckeyes defense performed so well in 2002 and led the team to a national championship that season. As usual in sports - and that means every sport at every level - talent is really what matters. Coaching can help to develop the talent and put the talent in the right position to succeed, put at the end of the day, it is the talent that wins or loses games. Funny how Dantonio was a defensive genius at Ohio State (with Mike Doss, Will Smith, Matt Wilhelm, Chris Gamble, Darrion Scott, Cie Grant, Tim Anderson, etc.) ... but his brilliance just hasn't translated to Michigan State (63rd in total defense, 39th in scoring defense this season).

I think it's certainly been overstated at the expense of Heacock and others, but I'd say they've played considerably better than their talent on defense at MSU. The mentality and toughness has taken a sharp change of direction.
Great stuff, LJB, but I gotta side with jwins a bit...Dantonio is the head coach, not the DC, so while he may have brought a new attitude to town and has a major influence over his defense, he still isn't the one drawing up their schemes and making the defensive calls during the game. Direct credit/blame for their defense should be pointed to the DC...

Purdue at Sparty will probably be vomit inducing.

Hoyer was Hoyer after the first hit and he got replaced soon afterwards.
Yeah, then the backup came in and started completing passes all over the place like he was Joe Montana.

I was really getting upset with Laurinaitis for knocking Hoyer out of the game.
