Ohio State 75, Florida 84 (final - NC Game)

I wonder at what point the talking heads on TV and the true fan bases of both schools will understand the magnitude of both schools playing in NC games in the same academic year in both sports. I think its understated. Granted it sucks to be on the wrong end of those games but holy shit. No UK, no Syracuse, no Duke and no UNC... Florida and Ohio State. tOSU's basketball program is on the up swing while Florida's (all props to them) has just peaked. I believe tOSU is building toward similar dominance in both sports......

WTF though, SEC fans bring a f'd up vibe to college athletics.

Believe it or not I had a discussion with my boys about what an accomplishment it was for both teams to be playing for the NC in the NCAA's two biggest sports. A year that fans from both schools will never forget.!

Dr. M: It's ridiculous...

Just look at Greg Oden's class schedule this semester.

At least Greg Oden can complete a sentence. I wonder if Dr. Machen could say the same for Joakim Noah? Cause I've heard her in a few interviews, and I couldn't understand a single word of it.

the President of UF, Bernie Machen, in a recent interview with Dennis Dodd.

excerpt:

Quote:
SPLN: That raises another question. What did you think of Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany's open letter comparing the Big Ten to the SEC?

Dr. M: It's ridiculous. What a homer. I was at Michigan (as provost and dean of the school of dentistry). I know how they get in at Michigan. Don't talk to me about the Nobel laureates at Michigan.

Just look at Greg Oden's class schedule this semester.
It would be poor form for an athletic director to be talking about the courses someone is taking at another college, but this is the University President.

I find it highly inappropriate for a president of a university to be commenting on the class schedule of a student-athlete at another college. And it's very galling since tOSU is on the quarter system (not semesters), and that Oden's current schedule consists of a history class, a biology class, and a math (pre-calculus) class.

But it shows the dangers of an athlete discussing his courses with media members. Many of them wrote about the history of rock-n-roll course from the winter quarter, and the majority weren't trying to do tOSU or Oden any favors while doing so.

Totally agree. I had a hard time believing the interview was real, but every indication is that Dr. Machen really behaves that way.

explains why some UF fans are the way they are "the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree"...surprised Myles Brand hasn't passed down sanctions/reprimands...
Eh, I don't think you can fairly tar UF sports fans with the crass remarks made by the UF president. They're not really the fruit to his tree (perverts). Giving a shabby interview is obviously not grounds for sanctions, and if the NCAA got in the business of giving reprimands for that sort of thing, they would rightly be ridiculed (although it wouldn't be any worse than the mascot purification business, so who knows?). The only appropriate response would be for Karen Holbrook to fly down to Gainesville and kick Machen in the nuts. Too bad E. Gordon Gee's not around any longer; he'd bring down the hammer.

Dr. M: My fans here are telling me that the Ohio State thing has gotten ugly. They have us on their radar screen. They dislike us as much as they dislike Michigan.
Illusions of grandeur?
I don't really like Florida, but fuck Michigan.

I find it very disturbing that a university president would call out an 18 year old college freshman on his classes in a national publication. What a super-douchelozzle.

I think a lot of it is people at UF attempting to make it a rivalry because they have won both meetings.

But, what I think this shows is that President of UF really shows his lack of knowledge surrounding our tradition. To compare our relationship with a school we rarely face with probably the greatest rivalry in all of sports is questionable at best. This is kind of like comparing UF's rivalry with University of Miami to their rivalry with FSU. While there is dislike and important meetings between the two, there is no comparison.

Sounds like the ol' boy just wants us to hate him as much as Ann Arbor (is a whore). It's gonna take a whole lot more than that for you to reach that level, my dear friend.

Well I can almost understand it if you are Florida, here's a school you have beaten twice when it mattered and 3 times over the past year. Or there's your two in-state schools, Miami and FSU, who have traditionally made you their bitch and you know will again soon, best to get your fans focused on something you can win at.

I have seen Florida fans saying that they will schedule the Buckeye football team every year, and I see two problems with that, one is the fact that tOSU doesn't want any regular ooc games like scUM has with Notre Dame, and two, Florida won't leave the south to play tOSU, and I don't foresee us deciding to head down to Gainsville every year.

Not to mention Florida does not have a tradition of scheduling OOC games like that. They have their in state rivalry games and thats it. Our OOC schedule seems pretty booked up for the next 9 years with some of college footballs most storied programs minus 07.

Wonder how many UF fans, alums, and profs/staff took offense to his shabby remarks and his rippin' on an eighteen year old student/athlete...I'm just concerned that these words come from the CEO of an institution of higher learning...

When people say things like that, they show a complete ignorance of the depth and breadth of our rivalry with Michigan. They just have no idea and it's pretty sad when they make such assertions.

It's like if during the cold war, China was like "Hey, look at US, we HATE the United States!" and the US and USSR were still just STARING HOLES in one another.

It's pathetic.
