Game Thread Ohio State at Penn State, 10/22/16, 8:00pm ET ABC/WatchESPN

I was under the impression Schiano was going to dial up some different blitz packages. Surprised we haven't seen that yet.

With the speed we have on the edge (Baker, Worley, Lattimore & Ward) I would have thought so also......McSorely can't throw it deep without it being a lob but yet we decided not to bring a corner. I always thought Ward was excellent on blitz packages but I guess we had other plans!

The fact that McSorely can't throw deep unless it's a lob doesn't really matter when we can't defend it...

It's kind of amazing. With all the talent we have, we have no one who can get deep, no one who can consistently catch, and no one who can get open other than Curtis Samuel, who happens to be our best RB.

I think I'm gonna throw up.

What'd he say?

I forget exactly. I was drinking heavily, was in a bar, and the sound quality of the clip was atrocious due to wind noise, but he basically said that the coaches didn't put them in position to win.

Here's what I read he said:

“I think we were well prepared. Just didn’t execute the gameplan like we should have,” said Barrett, who finished with 245 yards passing and one touchdown but just 17 carries for 26 yards. “I think the coaches did a great job scouting this team and I think the gameplan was where we wanted to we just didn’t make the plays we needed to down the stretch.”

Bringing a corner could certainly limit the time he has in the pocket, and since he needs to step up to get that distance on the ball certainly would be a factor.

I think at the end of the day we said our CB's are better than their WR's - typically I'd agree and I think we do, 4/5 times we are going to win that battle.....yesterday just happened to be that 1/5 times. But, I think by the 3rd quarter or early 4th we could see it was that 1/5 and we didn't adjust.

The more time I've had to digest the more I am inclined to stay away from trying to read too much into this.

That game was an absolute fluke. It was random variance. Tip of the cap to the PSU players, they obviously wanted it and played their hearts out but there is no way they should have won that game.

2 first down conversion on 3rd down for the game.......Two.

8 completions......Eight.

Barkley held (just) under 100 yards

less than 300 yards total offense

Sometimes no matter what the hell is going on, you are just going to lose a game. That's what happened. We can go crazy trying to find the why but there really is no "why". It was just a fluke night.

EDIT

I changed the first downs to "3rd down conversions" not sure what I was thinking.

Fluke or not, we dominated everything but the scoreboard, made head-scratching coaching decisions, and didn't properly put them away.

The killer instinct we saw the first three weeks has vanished. The team we saw in Norman doesn't even exist any more.

Not sure I agree with that a week after they showed great heart in gutting out an OT win at Wisconsin.

To each his own but in my little world the guy in charge of fixing this is Urban F Meyer and he has a ton of talent to work with. There are obviously some areas of concern and I'm not sure he can fix them in such a short period of time but given that it is Urban F Meyer we are talking about here, I personally am not ready to wave any white flags just yet.

Not only that but you also have to wonder just how much that Wisconsin win took out of them. I remember Bama struggling with Tennessee last year after a big win over Texas A&M. Not excusing the poor play but a physical war like that probably takes a lot out of you.

Haha this is how I feel... I don't buy that Austin Mack/Ben Victor aren't ready to play either and if I'm UFM I play the two kids.

They're bigger, they've been receivers for years, most of our wide outs can't block anyways (save Parris and Brown) and more importantly the guys above them have had their shots for 7 games and came up empty every single time.

It can't get worse. It can only improve so what the hold up is beyond me.

If we're in the top five by scUM week (playoff rankings, that is) then obviously beating a #2 or maybe even #1 scUM definitely gets us in (provided we then win the B1G CCG).
And it will...Scum isn't losing to anyone and the only ones capable of beating them is our boys.

We will enter that game ranked lower, at home, and quite possibly even underdogs (if they're undefeated I'd be pissed if we were favored).

I told my scum friend last week when he was badgering me (yes that was intentional) that you better hope for osu to win out because you don't want a pissed off osu team to show up. Last night he decided to talk shit (which I calmly replied with "2-12") and I didn't say it but I feel it we are better for having lost. I think provided we don't lose again we beat scum at home because of our new motivation. Without it I think they would have given us our first loss

We will be desperate, we will be mad, and we will have purpose.

I agree. Absolutely hate losing to PSU.
However, I'm hoping that this team will feel a little bit freer to play, have fun and whoop ass.
I actually think this will help them come the last game in November.
