Guess I should mention that recent football commit Steele Chambers is a pretty darn good Baseball player. Perfect Game actually list him as a part of our 2019 baseball class. Not happening but worth mentioning I guess.

To the surprise of nobody, Fish has indicated he'll sign with the Marlins. I expect everyone drafted will sign. Bummer for us good for them I guess.

Now we can only hope they all decide fast so we can try and fill their scholarships. B1G rules are such that we can't offer a vacated scholy until a player actually signs a pro contract. This is where signing 15-20 guys every recruiting cycle comes in handy for schools outside the B1G.

Well, looks like Fish’s replacement in the 2018 class has been found...

    Luke VonderHaar (New Bremen)

Listed as a 3B/1B but I think he’ll get a look at C first thing. Good size at 6’3” 190 lbs.

Fish was a legit switch hitter, excellent defender, and a college ready bat. I know next to nothing about Vonderwall. Hopefully he’s a serviceable replacement for one of Ohio’s best prospects in Fish. Welcome aboard Luke!

Widely regarded as the top-rated baseball prospect in the state for the Class of 2019, Columbus St. Francis DeSales outfielder Joey Velazquez received and accepted an offer to play baseball at Ohio State nearly two years ago.

As opportunity to play football at Michigan threw a wrench in those plans, though, and Velazquez flipped his pledge to the Wolverines on Friday morning.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Velazquez — who is considered the 79th-best safety and No. 968 prospect in the country — picked up an offer from Michigan back in March. The Wolverines beat out Cincinnati, Holy Cross, Indiana and Kent State for his pledge.

“To get an offer from the University of Michigan is very humbling and a great honor,” Velazquez told Eleven Warriors this spring. “I love the game of football, and when you think about football and all of the great college programs [there are], Michigan is one of the greatest programs ever in college football.

“Of course [I grew up an Ohio State fan], but I’ve always had great respect for Michigan and love the rivalry.”

The Buckeyes had been keeping tabs on Velazquez following a strong junior season in which he racked up 495 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns while playing running back and wide receiver and recorded 50 tackles, four pass break ups, three tackles for a loss and two interceptions on defense. The staff even invited him to attend games against Oklahoma, UNLV and Penn State last year, and he returned to campus for a one-day camp earlier this month.

Velazquez put on a solid performance for defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and linebackers coach Bill Davis, but the staff did not offer — hence his decision on Friday.

NCAA rules stipulate Velazquez’s scholarship will count toward the Wolverines' football allotment.

Recruiting as it relates to the Big Ten...Indiana just signed the young, up-and-coming Jeff Mercer as head coach. Wright State coach last 2 years (2018 Horizon champs, 77 wins), midwest born, raised and played. Great recruiter.

Despite coaching changes, they continue to be the premier team in the conference.

Mercer is a potential rock star. :banger:

I was hoping he’d be an option when Gene realized that just making the postseason isn’t the ceiling of our baseball program.

Lovelady was great at WSU, too but it was inevitable he would end up coaching in the state of Florida somewhere. Same with coach Waz at Purdue...he’ll be back out west before long, imo. Former Indiana coach Tracy Smith might be available by this time next year if Arizona St doesn’t win big in 2019. If smith gets the boot at ASU, Waz might be their guy.
