BUCKEYES TRAVEL TO CREIGHTON FOR GAVITT GAMES MATCHUP

Gavitt Tipoff Games
The Gavitt Tipoff Games is an annual series between the Big Ten and BIG EAST Conferences and named in honor of Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary. The series is in its fourth year and will span eight years with games being played on home sites. The Games will be played in the first full week of the college basketball season. The Buckeyes are 1-0 in the event with a win vs. Providence in 2016.

Early Notable Numbers
C.J. Jackson is averaging 19 points a game and has the Buckeyes off to a 2-0 start … he needs four made 3-pointers to reach 100 for his Ohio State career (96-264/.364) … he has scored 645 career points and is on pace to become Ohio State’s next 1,000-point scorer … Jaedon LeDee scored 16 points the last time out vs. Purdue Fort Wayne on just two shots from the field … he went 12 of 14 at the foul line in 13 minutes off the bench … freshman Luther Muhammad has started both games this season and averages 28.5 minutes and 11.5 points a game … another rookie, Duane Washington Jr., is 7 of 11 from 3-point range (.636) in two appearances … Andre Wesson reached 100 career rebounds with two at Cincinnati … he will reach 1,000 career minutes with three at Creighton … Kyle Young has yet to miss a shot this season (5-5) and is 6-7 from the foul line and 1-1 from 3-point range.

Scouting The Creighton Bluejays
Creighton will play host to the Buckeyes in The 2018 Gavitt Games. Creighton enters the game at 2-0 after home wins over Western Illinois (78-67) and East Tennessee State (75-69). Four Bluejays average 10 or more points led by Ty-Shon Alexander (16.0 ppg.). Damien Jefferson leads the team in rebounding with seven boards a game. Over the first two contests, Creighton has connected on 20-of-38 3-pointers (.526). Ohio State last faced Creighton Nov. 11, 2004 at the Guardians Classic in Kansas City, Missouri. The Bluejays won that game 65-63. Ohio State has not played in Omaha since Dec. 30, 1972, a 79-71 win for Creighton. Ohio State’s only road win came in the series opener Dec. 21, 1936 (35-28). The Buckeyes are 5-3 all-time vs. the Bluejays.

Ohio State vs. The Big East
Ohio State is 65-30 all-time vs. the teams that currently make up the Big East Conference. The Buckeyes have faced each current member at least twice with Butler being the team with the most games played against the Buckeyes (42/OSU leads 31-11). Ohio State had Providence have met the fewest times (2, OSU 2-0). Ohio State fell to Butler 67-66 in overtime a year ago at the PK80 event in Portland, Oregon (11/26/17). The Buckeyes faced Providence in the Gavitt Games in Columbus Nov. 17, 2016. The Buckeyes won that game 72-67.

Creighton was not very impressive in their first 2 games. They needed a 2nd half run to close out East Tennessee State. Would be nice to pick up another early season road win here.

Creighton lost two outstanding college basketball players off last season's team in Marcus Foster and Khryi Thomas. Those truly elite players are extremely difficult to replace for a program like Creighton. I am thinking Creighton is likely an NIT team at best, so I would hope OSU can pull out the W here.

The Buckeyes will be a 2.5-point road favorite when they take on Creighton in Omaha on Thursday night, according to VegasInsider.com.

This is already Ohio State's second game against a 2018 NCAA Tournament team after the Buckeyes handled Cincinnati on the road to start the season.

Ohio State was a 5.5-point underdog in that road contest against the Bearcats, but got the win outright.
