The Buckeyes didn't just land a commitment, they also played host to a stud linebacker.

And then there was 14.

Coming into the weekend sitting on 13 commitments, the Buckeyes closed it out by adding another quarterback to its class of 2017. Looking to bring in a signal caller alongside Danny Clark (Massillon, OH / Archbishop Hoban), Ohio State finally landed their man in standout dual-threat QB Tate Martell (Las Vegas, NV / Bishop Gorman) on Sunday evening.

Visiting his (now) future home for the second time in recent months, Martell, the former Texas A&M commit, gave Urban Meyer and crew his pledge while in Columbus on another unofficial visit. California, Colorado, UCLA and USC were among the other programs he considered before once again shutting his recruitment down. Just at the beginning of June, there were seven schools vying the top dual-threat QB in the country.

Over the last two seasons, the future Buckeye quarterback has put together some eye popping numbers. Not the biggest prospect at only 5'10, and 205ish pounds, Martell makes up for it with great touch and athletic ability. Since his sophomore season, he has accounted for 5,145 yards and 72 touchdowns through the air, while only throwing a total of eight interceptions. A dual-threat option, he keeps defense on their toes by making plays not just with his arm, but his legs. Proving that time and time again, he has rushed for another 1,037 yards, and another 14 scores since 2014.

Martell doesn't just give the Buckeyes another great player in their 2017 class, but a fantastic recruiter. Taking part in numerous camps across the country and building bonds with prospects through social media, the U.S. Army All-American hasn't just became a fan favorite, but is also held in high regards by some of the most sought after recruits on the high school level.

With Trevon Grimes (Fort Lauderdale, FL / St. Thomas Aquinas), Tyjon Lindsey (Corona, CA / Centennial)a good friend of Martell's – and other elite receivers currently considering Ohio State, look for even more play makers to give the Buckeyes a strong look before signing on the dotted line with a college program.

Hines visits Columbus

A long list of recruits took part in football camps or unofficial visits over the weekend. While many talented players were on hand, a couple of the top high school prospect in the class of 2017 made the trek to Ohio to see what Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes are building in Columbus.

Anthony Hines (Plano, TX / Plano East), a four-star linebacker, has scholarship offers from well over 80 programs and was one of the recruits that had the opportunity to see what it would be like suiting up in the Scarlet and Gray. Hines, who stands around 6'2, and 225 pounds, was once thought as a dream for Ohio State, but with OSU turning up their recruiting effort, and his visit to OSU, things look to be heating up between the pair.

With spots filling up quickly, Antjuan Simmons (Ann Arbor, MI / Pioneer) and potentially Brendon White (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) playing linebacker, will Hines end up in Columbus or will the Buckeyes turn elsewhere?

I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Wilson names top 10

When you're a five-star prospect you usually have your fair share of scholarship offers. That was certainly the case for defensive tackle Marvin Wilson (Bellaire, TX / Episcopal). Racking up over 25 college opportunities throughout the process, the 2017 standout is now down to 10 programs.

While some of the top programs in the country are now on the outside looking in, Ohio State, Ole Miss, USC, UCLA, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida State, LS, and Texas still have a chance in adding the Bellaire native.

Ohio State will soon have their chance to show Wilson, the top defensive tackle and third overall prospect in the class of 2017, around campus according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6'4, and well over 300-pound lineman will reportedly be in Columbus next weekend to see OSU for himself.

Quick Hits

  • Ohio State offered class of 2018 prospect Houston Griffith (Chicago / Mount Carmel) on Friday. Griffith, a four-star rated cornerback, is the son of former NFL player turned analyst Howard Griffith. A solid player in his own right, the younger Griffith now holds a offer from not just OSU, but also programs such as Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Illinois, where his father played on the college level.

  • Griffith wasn't the only 2018 prospect to receive a scholarship from Ohio State on Friday. San Jose, California native Maurice Washington (San Jose, CA / Oak Grove) also earned an offer from the Buckeyes. OSU might be the first program to offer the four-star running back a scholarship, but won't be the last, as many schools are keeping a close eye on him after he rushed for well over 1,500 yards as a sophomore.
