The Buckeyes had a weekend for the books.
While you were setting up plans for the weekend, Urban Meyer and crew had their hands full with dozens of top prospects during their annual Friday Night Lights camp.
If you took more than a few minutes to eat a cheeseburger or take a sip of lemonade you might have missed Ohio State once again dominating the recruiting trail. Don’t worry, Land-Grant Holy Land has your back. Get caught up with the weekend that was:
Buckeyes pick up 3 commitments
When you get a large group of prospects in Columbus, Ohio for a camp chances are someone will leave the Ohio State campus verbally committed to suit up for the Buckeyes.
This time was no different.
To kick off the weekend festivities for OSU, the Big Ten power locked up a pledge from not just one of top defensive ends, but prospects in the entire country. After being thought as an Ohio State lean for quite awhile, five-star standout Chase Young put all the rumors to sleep and finally jump aboard the Buckeyes class of 2017 on Friday evening.
Defensive line coach Larry Johnson adds another prize upfront. With Ohio State always looking to bring in depth across the line, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound U.S. Army All-American should be able to do just that once he arrives on campus.
Blessed with the prototypical length and speed that college coaches now search for when recruiting defensive lineman, Young had his fair share of college options on the table before deciding on OSU. Alabama, Maryland, Miami, Michigan and Michigan State were among the over 40 programs to offer him a scholarship throughout his very active recruitment.
Not long after the Buckeyes landed Young, they picked up their first class of 2018 pledge in four-star running back Brian Snead. Snead’s commitment wasn’t written in as many had Chase. Surprising some by ending his recruitment while in Columbus, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound back chose Ohio State over opportunities at Florida State and other top notch programs.
The sixth running back, and 80th overall recruit in the 2018 class, per the 247Sports Composite, Snead will now help Urban Meyer, Mark Pantoni track down elite talent to bring into fold.
One would have to believe quarterback Emory Jones (Franklin, GA / Heard County), another Friday Night Lights camper and key OSU target, will be hearing from him relatively soon.
Just when you thought the rich couldn’t get any richer, the Buckeyes weren’t done. Carrying the commitment momentum into Saturday, one of Ohio’s best announced in front of family, friends, and many others that he too will continue his playing days and education at the Ohio State University.
Letting the world know his plans from Cincinnati Colerain High School, four-star class of 2017 cornerback Amir Riep denied options at Alabama, Michigan State to attend OSU.
After securing pledges from Young and Riep, Ohio State, who is currently sitting 16 commits, puts even more pressure on SEC programs Alabama and Georgia for the top spot in the 2017 team recruiting rankings.
Will the Buckeyes recruiting success go into the week? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Stay with Land-Grant Holy Land for the latest.
OSU dishes out new offers
You can’t commit to a program without receiving an offer first. On Friday a few recruits had their dreams turn into reality, as Ohio State handed out three scholarships to underclassmen recruits after having the chance to watch them run through drills in person during camp.
2018 defensive end Greg Emerson (Jackson, TN / North Side) and two 2019 recruits, offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs (Bellville, MI / Bellville) and defensive end Antonio Alfano (Rahway,NJ / Bergen Catholic), all walked away with a chance to play for the Buckeyes.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Emerson now holds offers from not just OSU, but Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee and others, while Dobbs, who could end up on either side of the ball on the next level, adds the Buckeyes alongside power five conference schools like Auburn, Michigan State, Florida and Iowa State.

Just like Emerson and Dobbs, this isn’t Alfano’s first rodeo. The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder might have over two years until he signs on the dotted line with a college, but already has some solid options to choose from.

Duke, Penn State, Rutgers and Virginia Tech are just a few of the schools Ohio State find themselves up against in Alfano’s recruitment.
Only time will tell if Emerson, Dobbs or Alfano will end up with the Scarlet and Gray, but with all three on the verge of blowing up to some of the most sought after recruits in the country.
You can’t blame the Ohio State staff for shooting their shot.
