Game Thread Ohio State @ Indiana, 08/31/17 @ 8:00 ET (ESPN)

Almost through the third quarter on my second watch through of the game.

I do _highly_ recommend watching a second time. Having the ability to pause and go back to see what was going on really will make you feel better. A few things that I've notice have been mentioned but I'll list them:
1) JT does seem to be reading the field better. When he held the ball, it was more to get through progressions than it was hesitating.
2) If the receivers didn't drop the ball a couple of times it would have been a very different ball game. The first drop by Dixon and then the two by Parris prior to his TD would have extended drives. Figure at least one TD from one of those three drives.
3) When the DBs got beat, it seems to have been one of two things. Jump balls or being in good position, but Legow throwing to a spot that the receiver could run to. More or less throwing them open. The 50/50 balls is something that can be worked on. DBs have to either do a better job of reading the receivers eyes and getting their hands up or turn around to track the ball. I guess the way they are being taught these days, it's get your hands up and contest the pass. Tough to do over the shoulder and giving up 5-6 inches. The throwing the receiver open thing? Dunno... just have to hope that we don't see many examples of that. All in all, I don't think the DBs made a lot of mistakes. We just played a team that had a QB who was putting the ball right where it needed to go and was willing to throw it to places where he trusted receivers to get to.
4) JTs footwork is a lot better.
5) After a couple of series our Oline really started gelling. There were a couple of drives early on where Bowen got knocked off his block... but he progressed significantly during the game.
6) The Oline in pass protection was solid. It gave JT time to make his progressions. He had a lot of time on some plays. Hope to see that continue.
7) IU got away with a LOT of holding of our receivers early. I'll continue to watch that, but there was a lot of shit that didn't get called.
8) Defensive speed to the edge is redonk.
9) Our LBs will have to work on coverage of the slot receivers if we drop safetys back. They are speedy enough, but they do need to work on converage a bit more.

All in all, I think that a good part of the pant-shitting was happening because the game wasn't as 'easy' as we would have liked it to be. Yes, it was the season opener, and a lot of those games we expect to martch up and down the field and suffocate the opponent's offense. Opening with a solid B1G team on the road makes for a different experience.

Yes, there were some frustrating elements of the game. But there was also a significant amount of growth that happened in that 60 minutes as well. We'll see next weekend how things look, but given that a lot of our issues seemed to be a series of small things that weren't consistently bad throughout the game leads me to believe that some of it was rust that needed knocked off.

I will say this, watching it a second time, my greatest frustration was watching the D play two really solid downs and getting IU into a third and long and watching Legow throw a 10-yard completion. Those two tipped balls that were caught also were stupid luck.

This team has the potential to be exceptional. They will have to clean up a few messy things, but thankfully this week yielded enough tape for the coaches to work with in prep for the game next weekend.

Prediction for next weekend? 42-35 Good guys.

Good write up I agree with everything and basically noticed the same thing in review of game the 2nd time around. 1 critique if I may...

Ain't no way OU is throwing 35 on us! Bucks 45-17

  • Lagow, the QB was impressive but not nearly as impressive as his older sister (if you are into smoking hot six foot tall blondes that is)

I know somebody who likes six foot blondes...
