A pitcher's duel in Champaign ended in heartbreak for the Buckeyes.

In a pitcher's duel that lasted 15 innings, saw nine pitchers take the mound, and 413 pitches thrown, it was a wild pitch that handed Illinois a 1-0 extra inning win over Ohio State in Champaign on Friday night.

Jack Yalowitz stood on third with two outs in the bottom of the 15th inning when Buckeye reliever Kyle Michalik's tailing fastball eluded the glove of catcher Jalen Washington. Yalowitz scored the only run of the game to give the Illini the walk-off win.

Ohio State fell to 4-6 in Big Ten play, while the Illini improved to 5-5, moving into a tie with Maryland for seventh place in the conference standings.

To say that the pitching in this game dominated would be the understatement of the college baseball season. The two teams combined to strike out 33 batters and leave 20 men on base.

Tanner Tully was back to his usual self for Ohio State after a tough start last weekend against Rutgers. The junior lefty threw nine scoreless innings, scattering seven hits while striking out six and walking one in a no-decision.

Illini starter Cody Sedlock, one of the top draft prospects in the Big Ten, lived up to his billing. The big right-hander added to his conference-leading strikeout total, racking up a career-high 14 punchouts in 10.2 scoreless innings of work.

Sedlock's workload reached 132 pitches, which in this age of rampant arm injuries is rarely seen, as he allowed five hits and one free pass.

After the starters left the game, the bullpens were equally as dominant until a pair of singles off Michalik set up the winning run. The Illinois relievers didn't allow a hit in 4.1 innings, while Ohio State's yielded just four in 5.2 innings of their own.

Michalik took the loss, falling to 1-1 in 2016, while Charlie Naso, who worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top half of the 15th, evened his record at 1-1.

The two sides will square off again on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET with John Havird on the bump for the Buckeyes against the Illini's Doug Hayes.
