Ohio State makes the top group for a five-star linebacker out of Texas

The Buckeyes remain an option for one of the best defenders that the 2023 recruiting class has to offer.
After what seems to be a lengthy last couple of days regarding the bad for Ohio State on the defensive side of the ball with the wounds of the Oregon loss still fresh, the Buckeyes were able to garner some sort of positive news on that side of the ball — albeit on the recruiting trail — on Tuesday.
Hill down to 12
After receiving well over two dozen offers on the recruiting trail thus far, 2023 five-star linebacker Anthony Hill of Ryan (TX) has begun the process of finding his home on the next level as he narrowed things down on Tuesday. The No. 19 overall player in his class and the very best linebacker in the country revealed the 12 schools that stand atop his recruitment and the competition is just as one would expect for a player of his caliber.
Hill took to twitter to announce that Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Miami (FL), Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC are out in front for his services.
While the buzz around Hill and the Buckeyes is quiet for the time being, this news is a positive development. But now the next step for the program will be bringing Hill on campus to check out what the program has to offer. Al Washington is leading the charge for Ohio State, who offered the No. 2 prospect from the state of Texas back in December of last year, as he is the primary recruiter for the Lone Star State standout.
Wagner has “great” visit
Despite the loss to Oregon on Saturday, Ohio State was able to host a impressive group of prospects for the contest, including 2022 four-star offensive tackle Aamil Wagner of Wayne (OH). Even better news is that the 6-foot-6, 265-pounder looks to have enjoyed his stop in Columbus as well. “My visit was great,” Wagner told Garrick Hodge of Eleven Warriors just a few days after the visit occurred. “I really enjoyed getting a chance to experience my first Ohio State game and get to see how the team operates up close,” the Dayton native continued.
Wagner, who looks to be one of the programs top targets down the stretch, is currently slotted in as the No. 11 offensive tackle in his class and the 5th highest graded in-state prospect that Ohio State and offensive line coach Greg Studrawa are aiming to add to their No. 5 ranked recruiting class.
The Buckeyes are likely looking to bring in anywhere from 2-3 more offensive lineman in the class to join four-star offensive tackle Tegra Tshabola of Lakota West (OH) and four-star offensive tackle George Fitzpatrick of Cherry Creek (CO). Wagner, despite holding two Crystal Ball predictions to Kentucky, is very much a realistic option going forward and the visit could have put them in a more favorable spot.

- According to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com, Ohio State sent an assistant coach to Roselle Catholic (NJ) on Tuesday to check out 2023 five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher. The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder comes in as the No. 10 overall prospect in his class and the second highest graded combo guard that next year’s class has to offer. The Buckeyes are one of 13 programs that have already extended a scholarship to Wilcher.
- Penn State began their pursuit for a pair of Ohio State targets in the 2023 recruiting class on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions jumped into the picture for both five-star defensive lineman Vic Burley of Warner Robbins (GA) and four-star defensive lineman Keith Sampson of New Bern (NC) when they sent out offers to the two. Both are names that the Buckeyes and DL coach Larry Johnson are well aware of with the duo having Ohio State offers under their belt already.
