Ohio State Men's Ice Hockey (2019 B1G Champions)

B1G is out of the Frozen Four. Not surprising as only Minny was considered a strong candidate, and they crapped out in their first round game. Ohio State and the pedsters over performed though. Over all, it was a good breakthrough season for the B1G. Michigan should be back next year. Sparty got rid of their dumpster fire of a coach and should be back in a couple. Minny and Wiscy will always be nationally relevant. The pedsters too I'm sad to say. Notre Dame joins the conference next year, and there's rumors that we'll invite North Dakota in as an affiliate to salve the Gophers' butthurt over breaking up their old rivalries.

As for Ohio State, we certainly sniffed the butt of national relevance this year. The question is do we take the next step and mount it in the coming years or do we follow the program's historical path of slipping back into mediocrity or worse. If the rumors of a 6K hockey only facility are true, that would be a huge step towards answering that question.

THIS imo is what is holding us back as a program. It hurts recruiting, the national image, and the fan support of the program at large. The announcers referenced it several times during the UMD game, which gives the rumor far more smoke than it ever has. Would be a smart Phase 3 in the athletic complex after the Corvelli Pavillion (Phase 1 was Schott/Bill Davis, Phase 2 is Corvelli and Wrestling Complex, Phase 3 is Hockey rink/Possible Lacrosse specific field?)

Our publicized attendance was 5K a game last year, and I'm sure that's inflated. I think 5K mght be too small if the program really moves forward, and anything much higher than 6500 risks the arena being half empty on many nights. I think somewhere between 5500 and 6000 would fill up if the program is relevant and really provide some atmosphere. Hell, with the now steady stream of Big Ten +ND schools, we're in a lot better position to attract non-hockey fan students than we were with the old CCHA slate of Bowling Green, Directional Michigans and Omaha. Let it become a tough ticket to get.

After knocking out the Bucks in OT, Minn-Duluth went all the way to the title game where they fell to Denver (3-2).
