  • Tommy Nappier, a goalie on the No. 6 Ohio State men’s hockey team, has earned league weekly honors. Tuesday, the junior from St. Louis, Mo., was named Big Ten Third Star of the Week after allowing just three goals in the Buckeyes’ 1-0-1 series vs. Minnesota.

This is Nappier’s eighth career Big Ten weekly award and he leads all Big Ten players with four honors this season. He was named first star Oct. 15, second star Nov. 5 and third star Dec. 3.

Last weekend against Minnesota, Nappier led the Big Ten with a 1.39 goals-against average and was second with a .951 save percentage. Friday, he had 25 saves on 27 shots, allowing just two power play goals, as the Buckeyes won 3-2 in overtime. Saturday, he made 33 saves, including six in overtime as the teams skated to a 1-1 OT tie.

Nappier’s final stop Friday (in overtime) was save 1,000 of his Buckeye career. On the year, he has an 8-4-2 ledger, 1.88 gaa and .934 save percentage, ranking first and second, respectively, in the Big Ten. He is 24-8-5 as a Buckeye, with a 1.81 gaa and .937 save percentage.

Nappier and the Buckeyes (10-4-2, 6-3-1-0 Big Ten) are off until hosting Colgate Dec. 27-28 in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. in game one and 4 p.m. in game two (note the new game time for the second game).
