Ohio State Men's Lacrosse (2013 ECAC Champions)

Jacksonville isn't BAD... but that is not a team we should be going to OT with. I'll have to find a way to watch a replay (I was on the road during the game and was following on twitter) to see where the breakdowns were.

Hopefully this is a big learning lesson without dropping a harmful OOC match.

I think I have access to the game through my CBS subscription. I didn't get a chance to watch live either... and normally I'd completely agree, a team this new, we shouldn't be going to overtime with. I did see something interesting on Twitter tho. First outdoor game for the team this year. 0-fer'd first four save opportunities. Presume Smidt started in cage but haven't even looked at the box yet... but nevertheless... wonder how much of it was tracking the ball in daylight. Having thrown in the WHAC, I can say that the lighting is very different than sun... let alone Florida sun.

This is definitely a possible factor. We just seemed to bleed goals for sections of the game. Looks like a lot of goals from middies. This will have to be fixed before B1G play... too any talent offensive middies in this league that will tear us apart.

Seems we've had a switch at the faceoff dot as well.

Will try and find time to watch this tonight. Looking at the play by play, it looks like a game I'm glad I didn't watch live. Brutal.

A few things jumped off the page from the box score.

They had 2x caused turn overs (8-4) on us. That's not typical. We're usually way more aggressive on ball than that. And having 8 go against us? Not good ball security at all.

Smidt had three (3) saves in the game. Don't even know what to say about that... Oh, and that's even before I note:

They outshot us too... 36-27... 36 shots -11 goals - 3 saves. So, 14 shots on goal and 22 not on goal for them 27 shots - 12 goals - 7 saves... 19 of our shots were on goal and 8 not on goal. That save ratio has to go up for us to be competitive long haul.

Yes, it does look like there was a change at FoGo. Inacio took most of the draws. Went 500 (10-20). Feliziani was also 500 (3-6). I'm not overly surprised that we're seeing Nick experiment at the dot. Inacio is a Hill Academy kid and was one of two FoGos on the Canadian U19 national team. He's got some talent, but at 5'10" /180 lbs he needs some time to put on some mass. For reference, I coached the '17 U15 national champion FoGo... he's about 5'11" - 6' / 190 lbs and chiseled. We also had three FO violations in the game. I don't see that it impacted anything other than Inacio drew an unsportsmanlike like in the 4th while we were trying to come back. I'll watch for that, but we were down 1 at the time it happened.

Good news... we won GBs and were 3-0 man down and 1-0 man up.

Net, net: Tre saved our bacon and have to give Maccani credit here too as he got the assist on the tying shot see @ScriptOhio post above as well as the assist in the OT game winner.

Coming off a bad 12-7 loss at Denver, a win today over Notre Dame at the Shoe would do wonders for this team. That said, ND has owned the series (33-9) including 15 straight wins against the Buckeyes.

It's on ESPNU.
