Ohio State Men's Lacrosse (2013 ECAC Champions)

14-8 final. Final goals from Hofstra were garbage time goals.

Defense looks solid. Got beat at the draw more than I thought we would today.

When the first two lines are in, the fundamentals are very good. A lot of weapons out there. Crisp passing. Good things off ball.

One of two, I think, left undefeated. Towson and us. Cornell was undefeated earlier in the week until State Penn took them out.

B1G LAX is stacked. Without bias, I think it’s the deepest conference in the country. We started the season picked fourth in the B1G. I think that’s a reasonable guess. I like us as third.

State Penn
UMD
Ohio State / Hop?

Rutgers / TSUN (edge to Rut)

Started the week at 9. Likely will move up. Guessing 7th? Still think they are a 5-10 national team.

Pretty big win yesterday over the Domers in SB. We went down 6-2 right before the half. Then ND scored to open the second so we were down 7-2 (for those who aren't into maths). Came back to tie it at 8s early in the 4th. Went up 10-8. All that was left was to kill the 80-second shot clock. With 90-seconds left, Jasinski put it on the ground after getting doubled coming out of a TO. Pretty uncharacteristic for him as he's got one of the better handles on the team... and he's pretty greasy (in a good way) too.

Anyhow, ND scores after a TO and then wins the draw and scores again with under 40 seconds left in the game to tie.

Domers won the draw, had a nice break with a feed to the island (right on the doorstep of the goal). Kirson had a heck of a save, as he was dead to rights, to keep it tied.

tOSU ball and a TO called to set up the play. Two man game (think pick and roll) where Colby Smith got free while the ball was doubled. Got a quick pass and took a step down of about 20-25 ft for the game winner 11-10.

Survived another week undefeated. Went into the weekend at #5. May rise a bit as Cuse took down dookie today. Rutgers at home next week. They're a good test. State Penn coming up after, and they're the top of the heap right now. After the Domers, State Penn will be the next real test.

Seeing a LOT of media ballots for this week going in with B1G in the top three slots.

UMD / State Penn / tOSU

Getting a lot of love for being the only one left undefeated. Perhaps a bit too much love in my mind, but nice to see the recognition. SOS in B1G is unreal this year. The only team that is questionable is tsun. Anyone else could take down anyone on any given day.

Crazy how 10 years ago lacrosse wasn’t even a glint in the eye of the B1G.

I'm not afraid at all of Rutgers... they've flopped around pretty harmlessly all season. I do wonder if we'll have some fatigue after the emotional road win against ND and before a trip to #1 PSU (boy is that a weird combination of words). Gotta pick up wins over RU and TTUN in conference at minimum.

Under the "gotta" heading, I'd include Hop as well. UMD and State Penn will be difficult games. I think that UMD is winnable as they're not the team they have been over the last few years. Still exceptionally talented, but not over the top talented like before. UMD and State Penn are in College Park on Sunday and that should be a fun watch... That said, looks like Pedo is without Ament... but their attack line is still really good with him on the bench. That attack line is what concerns me when we play them. I think that we can hold them in check, but we're never going to stop them.

So, best case, aside from winning out in the B1G which is pretty low probability, I would be ecstatic with:
  • UMD taking out State Penn while Ament is recovering. 3/31 @UMD
  • tOSU taking out UMD. Thankfully this is a home game for us. 4/20 @tOSU
  • Taking a likely loss to Pedo after Ament returns. 4/7 @State Penn, a week after they play UMD... so, hopefully we catch them emotionally / physically exhausted a bit.
  • UMD, Pedo, tOSU win out rest of B1G schedule.

That would give us all a single loss in B1G assuring that we all make it to the B1G playoffs. From there, we'd have to let the chips fall. Hopefully we show out well enough that if we don't win the B1G we still make the tourney.

I still think the team is a 5-10 nationally... getting to 1-4 means that they really come together and start playing in another gear.

And the crap weekend continues. What happened here? I only started watching about 10 minutes ago.

Sloppy play... Lots of turnovers early. Never got shots on cage.

Rut pushed their D out on the ball carriers which made getting the north - south dodges difficult. They also did a fine job of shutting down anything coming from below GLE either 1-1 or with a quick double and well timed slides.

They got their asses beat today by a team that was well prepared to defend that they do well.
