Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

Three victories in match breakers … Robert Cash & Matej Vocel become third Buckeye doubles team in ITA history to win the All American National Championships. and Fall Nationals in the same year, Only 5 teams have ever accomplished the feat . Vocel & Cash played the 2019 finals against each other as Matej was at Oklahoma State and Robert Cash lost in a tb with John McNally . Tremendous coaching . Look for Boulais & Trotter to also be ranked in the top 10 the All American Finalists reached the consolation finals falling in a match tb .

Bucks sign 2 top 25 recruits
Especially excited to see how Jack Anthrop develops.

Anthrop is the No. 4 overall recruit in the class. The Orlando, Fla., native was the top-ranked player in the USTA Boys 14 and 16 rankings and rose to as high as No. 17 in the ITF world junior rankings. He is a five-time ITF singles champion and has reached the semifinals two other times. He’s also won a pair of ITF doubles titles. In 2019, Anthrop was a semifinalist at the 16s Orange Bowl and won the 16s Eddie Herr. This past summer, he competed in both the US Open and French Open juniors. Jack is the son of Don and Heather Anthrop.

With the fall season completed, it begins the Gracelhink speculation time, projecting how the Buckeye singles and dubs lineups will shake out for the yet to be announced 2022 Buckeye spring schedule.
This much is certain, the singles lineup for 2022 will be strong at the top and as deep as I can remember….

The additions of two grad transfers who played at number one line on their previous teams, JVE at okie and Vocel at okie state, will create a pleasant dilemma for Tucker …
the pieces to plug and play are on campus to replace grads John McNally and Kyle Seelig.
I assumed Cannon Kingsley (3-1 this fall with 3 wins over nationally ranked players) would anchor the 2022 Buckeyes singles lineup .

That assumption would include a mix of Matej Vocel, Jake Van Emburgh, and James Trotter in a practice struggle to decide the order for filling the #2-4 lines.
The inner squad battles for the lineup orders would be intense and energized.
But Vocel had a monster fall, 10-3 in ncaa tournament performance (won 8 matches vs ranked players) That is more than worthy of the #1 line as Vocel should be ranked top ten in January, …
Trotter had a strong fall winning the Midwestern ITA tourney and claimed 3 wins over nationally ranked opponents.
JVE played on the pro tour where he competed at the ultimate levels..

Then I was blown away …. The most impressive Fall tournament results were from sophomore J.j. Tracy (15-4), he has added some weapons and his potential is rocketing beyond the consistently steady, defensive albeit successful play from last year. Tracy this fall advanced deep to the quarters in both the national and all American fall tournaments, he claimed three wins over ranked players (#18, 21, 64) and could be ranked in the top 25 when the next ita singles rankings are released in January, …
So playing a top 25 Tracy at #5 or 6 line seems borderline immoral, absurd, so he may bump JVE for #4 line. But thinking 2021 Oklahoma #1 transferring and playing the #5 line at Tosu is crazy.

Buckeyes will have returning juniors Robert cash and Justin Boulais fighting for the singles #6 line, but wait because…
that last battle will also need to include incoming blue chip early enrollee Jack Anthrop. Anthrop was the number 4 rated 2022 senior by tennis recruiting network and has the floor to compete immediately at #4 and the potential ceiling to be the future #1 singles player in the lineup…

What I am most eager to see is the Buckeye dubs lineup options, … last year the bucks dropped some dubs points and lost in ITA indoors vs Virginia, at TSUN, vs Illinois in B1G tourney finals and TCU in ncaa quarters and couldn’t overcome the dubs point with 4 singles points.
This fall, the team of Cash and Vocel were on fire (13-0), winning both major fall ITA championships. They will be ranked #1 doubles team in January rankings release.
Big game James Trotter and Boulais have also posted impressive fall results (7-3) and should be ranked in top 10.
It will be Tuckers call for who will fill the number 3 line and it is going to be fun to see, His options will include combo of a pair of…Kingsley, JVE, Tracy, Lutschanig and Anthrop.
What a great time to be a Buckeye fan!

The OSU official. Site released their spring mens tennis schedule today.
Some great matches coming in February to the Ty Tucker tennis center including power schools like UVA Wake Kentucky and Tennessee.
They also will take an early road trip to Texas to prepare (acclimate) play for The outdoor season, Unfortunately past experiences have shown some humbling results from those tests.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker has once again set a challenge spring schedule. In addition to the Big Ten schedule, the Buckeyes will face a handful of Top-25 teams in the non-conference portion of the schedule.

The Buckeyes will open the team portion of the season against a familiar foe in Illinois in a non-conference match on Jan. 22. After that, the Buckeyes will head to North Carolina for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. There, they will open against Arizona State and then play either North Carolina or Northwestern.

The Buckeyes will entertain traditional powers in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Wake Forest at home in the early part of the February before hopefully making an appearance at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in mid-February in Seattle, Wash. The month closes with a home match vs. UCF and then a trip to Notre Dame.

This year’s spring break trip will be to Texas to take on Texas and Texas A&M. That will lead into Big Ten play starting at the end of March. With just 10 Big Ten schools sponsoring men’s tennis, Tucker and the Buckeyes have picked up non-conference matches against both Illinois and Michigan prior to the regularly scheduled conference matches. After the Jan. 22 match, OSU and Illinois will meet in their conference match in Columbus on March 25. The non-conference match with Michigan will be March 18 in Ann Arbor and then the two will meet on April 15 in a conference match in Columbus.

Couple nuggets,
Bucks will play Illinois and tsun twice but only one of each counts for conference race in 2022.

The Big 10 is now down to ten men's tennis teams, 2 more B1G tennis programs were cut in 2022.
Tennis is typically not a high maintenance sport, budget includes 4 1/2 schollies, ( which in osu case are donor sponsored) have lower coaching contracts and comparatively smaller travel expense.
.
Marketing for B1G mens tennis via conference and most team social media presence needs improved,
B1G men's tennis teams have the lowest number of twitter follows of all major conferences. :bored:
Buckeye twitter is timely, active and good content, also Illinois and tsun, but not much invested elsewhere.
