COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 2 Ohio State men's tennis team (32-1, 13-0) successfully defended its 2006 and 2007 Big Ten Tournament titles Sunday when it beat third-seed Illinois in the final of the 2008 Big Ten Tournament at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Iowa. Ohio State claimed its fourth Big Ten Tournament title in the last seven years. The Buckeyes also were the 2008 regular-season league champions.

"I want to thank the staff at Iowa for a great event," Tucker said. "I know we are going to see Illinois again in a couple of weeks and they always put on a tough match. I couldn?t be happier for my guys today."

Ohio State now has won 39-consecutive Big Ten matches and is 90-5 in its last 95 contests, including the postseason. Head coach Ty Tucker improves to 19-5 in the Big Ten tournament. Bucks poised to make waves at NCAAs

As a Florida native, Julie Blackmore is very familiar with how fans in the South view Big Ten sports.

"I'm very eager to prove them wrong," Blackmore said. "They think the Big Ten and Ohio State are not very good.

"We're going to work hard and try to prove them wrong."

For the first time since 2004, the OSU women's tennis team is part of the NCAA tournament field. The Buckeyes (19-7 Big Ten) get a chance to prove southern fans wrong on May 9 in Gainesville, Fla. as they take on Auburn University (16-9) from the Southeastern Conference.

"When I first got here and talked with the girls, making the tournament was our top goal," freshman Cami Hubbs said. "We've been pushing each other all season to get better and to work hard in order to make the tournament."

No current member of the team has ever participated in the tournament. OSU is making its seventh appearance in the NCAA field overall, with six coming under coach Chuck Merzbacher.

The Ohio State men's tennis team does not believe that Patrick McEnroe is right.

McEnroe, the ESPN tennis anaylist, said that No.10 Florida would defeat the Buckeyes in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament, if the match-up happens on Sunday, May 18th.

"Luckily, Mr. McEnroe doesn't decide what we do," Junior Bryan Koniecko said. "Everyone has their opinion, but I know that we are the best team or could be the best team. We'll see."

"He thinks that Florida can beat us in the quarterfinals due to the fact that they come from the toughest conference and they feel that they have been battle-tested all year long," coach Ty Tucker said. "Patrick McEnroe knows his stuff, but I doubt he spent much time. He might have gone through 30-40 minutes of college tennis notes."

Ohio State and Illinois will meet again in the regional semifinals on Friday in Tulsa. .

This Illinois team will be tough to beat three times in one season.
Here's hoping Matt Allare back healthy and anchoring the #4 singles slot and bringing some length to the doubles team will make the difference!
Good luck Buckeyes and make us proud on your trip out west.

OOOps. . . Mr. Mc Enroe unfortunately that Quarterfinal match-up won't happen! OSU held true to form with their tough round of 16 victory. The team from the "toughest conference" was disappointing in their round of 16 match with #7 seed Texas. Texas won 4-0, setting the stage for Sunday's OSU v. Texas quarterfinal.
