Game Thread Ohio State @ Michigan State - 11/10/18, 12:00PM (FOX)

Not me, I was very happy with the win. I was really nervous about the defenses coming into the game but they shut shit down. This was a "gut-it-out" win that I wasn't sure this team was capable of but they responded nicely after all the shit flung their way all week. Easily the most satisfying win of the year for me.

Same here, I'm extremely pleased with the results of the game. That team looked pissed off and hungry for the first time since the second half of the PSU game. It showed in many crucial areas, but it was more glaring on the defensive side of the ball. I haven't had a chance to go through this thread and there were moments of the game I was frustrated for sure. But looking back at a 26-6 win on the road against Sparty, I can't help but smile given our struggles against them in my lifetime. Damn good win Buckeyes.

Specifically:

(1) I can't hop on the Dru Chrisman train because I've already been on it, he's just had am amazing season. But that was definitely cool to see a punter take over the game, kid is unreal and so is the special teams unit as a whole. They have won us two games in a row now imo.

(2) Haskins had some errant passes, but he made some crucial plays when it mattered. Wind was clearly a factor out there though.

(3) Olave looked pretty nice out there in his debut. Look forward to seeing more of him.

(4) Tate needs to play more, he just does. I would be fine scaling him back the next game just so the team up north has less film to watch, but he better have a damn coming out party against the skunk bears. I have the feeling we are going to need him big time in that game and I think Tate will be ready to deliver.

(5) Brendon White is a site for sore eyes back at safety. I said it in his thread, but I'll say it here again: Let's stop bitching that he didn't start earlier and just enjoy the improvement. He's playing great, just enjoy it and move on.

(6) The defensive scheme as a whole was one of the best I've seen from Schiano and the first semblance of cohesiveness I've seen from the defensive staff. Put together a lot good performances in each unit. Specifically, I was really pleased with the tackling and the LBs played a lot better. I got the sense the LBs would match up better against Sparty, but you can't dismiss their performance. Need to go back and watch the game again but it seemed like they played really well.

(7) The offensive line continues to be concerning, but the run blocking did look better this week against a very good MSU defense. Seems like people are frustrated with the offense yesterday, but let's not dismiss that Sparty does have a great defense. We sprung for some big time plays at moments that mattered. I really liked Weber's performance yesterday, I think he is the hot hand moving forward.

- Overall, great win for our team and a massive gut check imo. I don't think this is a championship caliber team, especially in a year where Bama looks damn near impossible to beat (I know, we've heard that before and then that team loses, but just don't see that happening this time around). Regardless, if you can't enjoy that win as a fan, not really sure what to tell you. This team is good in their own right and if they put together another performance like that and keep improving over the next couple weeks, we might be pretty pleased after The Game. Go Bucks!

Well... I was "that guy" today... just woke up confused and wondering why everyone was awake when obviously it was 2 am.

Only thing I'll say about this game that I'm unhappy about... PLAY. TATE.

Doesn't have to start but he deserves 15+ snaps a game... get it right staff

Might as well just be every 3rd and 2/1/inches. He has a capable arm so it isn’t like he’s just a one-dimensional Guy; they’re absolutely clueless in short yardage situations so you might as well put in the guy that can make something happen.

Imagine how many drives we have killed because of that; I literally don’t want to know how many points we’ve left off the board because we simply haven’t known what to do on 3rd and 2.

After a quick rewatch I'm not overly impressed with this win. Suspect playcalling, errant throws from Haskins, and terrible penalties that continue to fuck us. This was a one score game going either way without Chrisman, MSU's inability to complete an open pass, and comical turnovers on their part. Looks great on paper but this was a completely different game from the final score. A win against MSU is always awesome but as I've said previously I hope we win out ugly and get snubbed for the CFP. The Rose Bowl is our ceiling.

Yea the scoreline is misleading, but there were still some positives to take away.
The D finally looked their part. I get MSU's offense is horrible but we've played other horrible offenses and made them look amazing. White is a tall glass of water.
Offense just shoots themselves in the foot too often. Penalties and bad snaps, mostly. Dixon and McLaurin had 2 big drops. MSU was able to frequently pressure Haskins which directly led to off target balls. One pro is we stuck with the run and were eventually able to get some headway there.
The OLine isn't going to magically get better... but the snap issue *must* get fixed, and the false starts need to stop. Can't help feeling like the OLine needs a shakeup, focused on putting Jordan back at Guard. But it's so late that bowl practice may be the earliest we see that.
The coaches now have 2 methods in short yardage and rzone between Jumbo we saw against Corn and Tate yesterday. Just a question if they remember those plays are there when it matters in 2 weeks...

My God that field! Someone could get hurt! Someone should be suied! What could be the "excuse" for a field like that? Sure, it snowed but that field should, you would think, at least have been covered? But, no. Maybe it was made bad on purpose? Maybe it was Dantonio trying to give his team an "edge" playing on such a sloppy field? Who knows.
However. Winning under those conditions gives this youngish team some confidence they needed. And we finally have a safety that is a playmaker besides Fuller.
And our special teams were "special". And were huge! Huge I tell ya!
Bring on Maryland.
Bring on That Team Up North!

Yes, we must have watched a completely different game. Just went back to it this morning and I disageee wholeheartedly. Our defense and special teams dominated them.

Offense left a huge amount of points on the field. The game should have been won by 40-50+.

You’re right about the final score not being a good indicator, though. Because this could have been a total beatdown if the offense doesn’t miss numerous opportunities.

Early press sees this as a Sparty loss, not a Buckeye win. Might be true but I will take it.
Don't really see how. It's not like Sparty was actually moving the ball even when they weren't shooting themselves in the foot. If anything Sparty is lucky OSU offense kept shooting themselves in the foot with dumb play calling and penalties. Otherwise it would've been something like 42-6.

So we start in the 4th quarter 9-6. !4:10 they give us a touchdown with a free turnover, of course we have to credit our punt for the positioning but still, that turnover is on them, 16-6. Next possession they give the ball back unforced 14:01 and we proceed to make it 19-6. How many points did our offense score and how many points did they hand straight to us? Believe me I want this team to succeed but you have to look at the facts. They handed this victory to us, but usually wins against MSU are hard fought.

Offense had multiple drops, penalties that killed drives, and a fumble inside the 5. They put those points on the board, it’s a huge blowout. More missed opportunities than anything to do with MSU.
