Game Thread Ohio State @ Nebraska - 09/28/19, 7:30PM (ABC)

EARLY ACTION. Football is still almost three months away, but you can now bet on half of Ohio State's games, if you're into that sort of thing.

The sports book BetOnline.ag already has early lines for six Ohio State football games, and the Buckeyes are favorites in all but the biggest one.
  • Ohio State -7 @ Nebraska
What if I were to tell you that there was a betting trend that hit .933 percent of the time over the past 15 years in Ohio State vs. Michigan games...

THE TOUGHEST QUARTERBACKS OHIO STATE WILL FACE IN 2019

Ohio State won't face a lot of elite quarterbacks this fall.

In years past, the Buckeyes have had to defend the likes of Trace McSorley, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Deshaun Watson. The latter two came in postseason games, so there's a strong chance a matchup like that could exist for Ohio State down the road.

But looking at the regular season slate, there aren't a lot of names that could turn the heads of most fans. Here's a look at the most dangerous quarterbacks the Buckeyes face this fall.

ADRIAN MARTINEZ, NEBRASKA
Adrian Martinez had an up-and-down season as a freshman starter for Nebraska last year, but he found his bearings down the stretch despite the Cornhuskers' depleted roster.

That was especially true when Nebraska made the trip north to Columbus for a November showdown with Ohio State. He completed 22 of his 33 throws against the Buckeyes for 266 yards and a touchdown (and no interceptions) while running for 72 yards and two more scores. Ohio State narrowly escaped the Martinez-led comeback, winning 36-31.

When the Buckeyes see Martinez this fall, it'll be in Nebraska and almost certainly under the lights in primetime.

I always like watching the upcoming opponent on Saturdays

What I think I learned last night:
  • I think Martinez’ mobility might give the silver bullets some issues
  • I think the blackshirt backfield has no answers for OSU receivers
  • I think if they play defenses built to give their corners help, the Buckeyes will run all over them, because...
  • I think the OL will push the blackshirts around
  • I think the Buckeye special teams are much better
  • I think Spielman will make a play or two
  • I think the silver bullet backfield will otherwise handle the UNL passing game
What I learned last night:
  • I know that the silver bullet DL will control the los. If they’re disciplined about it, they might contain Martinez a bit (see point one above), but this might give receivers an extra half a second or so to get open (see point six (penultimate) above
