The Buckeyes throw their hat in the ring for a 2017 tight end from the Sunshine State

Ohio State has numerous young tight ends currently on the roster, but that didn't keep Urban Meyer and crew from dishing out a scholarship to one of the top rated soon-to-be senior prospects in the country. On Thursday afternoon, three-star recruit Tre' McKitty of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. announced the Buckeyes are the latest program to offer him a chance to attend their University.

"[Mark Pantoni] said he really likes me as a player and wants to get me up there ASAP," McKitty stated to Land-Grant Holy Land. "This offer is a huge one I've wanted for awhile. Ohio State is big time."

McKitty, the 16th rated tight end and 473rd overall prospect in the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, adds Ohio State to an already impressive list of scholarship offers.

Auburn, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and USC are just a few of the schools after the 6-foot-4, 235-pound standout.

While there is no question McKitty has the potential to be a steal for someone at tight end. Some college programs think his skill set could be perfect on the defensive side of the ball. Recently the Colorado coaching staff gave the Florida native a chance to join the Buffaloes as an outside linebacker.

    Spence set to announce

This morning one of the top defensive line prospects of the 2017 class will shut his recruitment down, and verbally commit to a college program. Tre McKitty's IMG Academy teammate Cam Spence will make his college decision known to the public this morning at 8 a.m. EST.

Receiving over 20 scholarship offers during the process, Spence will choose between Ohio State, Maryland, Alabama, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, North Carolina, USC, Florida, and Ole Miss.

Once thought as potential pledge for the Buckeyes, Spence's recruitment has changed up a bit over the last few months. After a recent visit to College Park, Md., all signs point towards the 6-foot-5, 285-pound defensive tackle heading to Maryland and suiting up for the Terrapins.

    2018 prospects visit OSU

Over the last couple of weeks the Buckeyes have played host to a number of high school recruits. Once again on Thursday, Ohio State had the chance to show some highly recruited prospects what the program is working with. Making the trip to Columbus to get more familiar with OSU was sophomore standouts Christian Tutt, and Casey Thompson.

Tutt, a four-star cornerback from Thomson, Ga., holds offers from not just Ohio State, but also from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Baylor.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Tutt might have a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes, but Thompson has yet to receive a chance to play at OSU. Thompson, a Moore, Okla. native and four-star signal caller, current holds offers from Power 5 programs such as Miami, Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Virginia Tech.
