The Buckeyes won over a top recruit while the Wolverines were practicing out of state, but the recruiting news didn't stop there.

With spring slowly approaching, news on the recruiting trail without a doubt will start to pick up as well. The Buckeyes are off to a hot start in 2017, hoping to land an elite class which could be tops in the country. The only knock will be the size. There won't be a whole lot of spots open this year and we should see Ohio State ultimately sign between 18-21 players. Depending on the attrition, there's a chance a few more spots could open up. Along those lines, on Tuesday, the Buckeyes made noise in the recruiting world: picking up a commit as well as offering a big-time prospect.

Bucks offer Tufele

On Tuesday, Ohio State sent out an offer to 2017 defensive tackle Jay Tufele, from Bingham High School in Utah. Tufele is a four-star prospect and the number three defensive tackle in his class. He is also the 65th-rated overall player in 2017. At 6'3, 285 pounds, Tufele is a force in the trenches and can use his natural brute strength to overpower offensive linemen. Tufele holds 18 offers as it stands right now. With Haskell Garrett and Jeron Cage already in the fold, Ohio State has the luxury to be a bit picky with this defensive tackle spot. It will be important for the Buckeyes to get Tufele on campus this spring or summer. If they're able to accomplish that, Ohio State will be sitting pretty as one of the teams to beat in this recruitment.

Its an Honor and privilege to say I have received an offer from Ohio state University! #thankful #GoBuckeyes pic.twitter.com/HUIBjTsYvZ

Simmons commits to OSU

While Michigan is away for spring practice in Florida, Ann Arbor prospect Antjuan Simmons elected to commit to Ohio State. A three-star prospect, Simmons checks in at 6'1, 215 pounds, and has blazing speed at the linebacker position. Simmons is not only a finesse player, but brings the wood when filling holes. Simmons was held in high regard by the Ohio State coaching staff and this could wrap up linebacker recruiting for this cycle, pending a commit from an extremely highly-rated prospect. According to his 247Sports profile, Simmons holds 40 offers, and though the stars next to his name don't look great, most top programs in the country are vying to land his services. Living in literally a rival's backyard, the Buckeyes will have to continue to recruit Simmons the whole way. At the next level, Simmons will try and develop into a Darron Lee-like linebacker. Though it's a tall task, the skill set is there. There is huge upside when looking at Simmons as a linebacker at the next level.
