Ohio State passes out 2 new offers

The Buckeyes are working to add more defensive prospects to their 2018 and 2019 classes.
Two snag Buckeye offers
As things sit today, Ohio State currently has 10 committed prospects in the fold for this year’s recruiting cycle. When browsing the list of elite names, you will run into just one defensive tackle. In fact, to this point, you’ll find just two defensive lineman in general: defensive end Brenton Cox and DT Taron Vincent.
On Wednesday, Ohio State took big steps to increase their chance of getting more defensive star prospects. The Buckeyes dropped an offer to ‘18 DT Tramel Walthour of Liberty County (GA).

For Buckeye fans, that program should be one that rings a bell. Back in 2014, the Scarlet and Gray reeled in Raekwon McMillan from that same school and it was undoubtedly one of the biggest pickups in the Urban Meyer-Ohio State era. Now three years later, McMillan is in camp with the Miami Dolphins looking to prove his worth as the franchise’s second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
As for Walthour, he is a mammoth 6-foot-4, 277-pounder who is beginning to see his recruitment take off. Just hours after receiving an offer from the Buckeyes, the three-star prospect was also blessed with offers from both Arkansas and Auburn. Combine those three schools with Georgia, Purdue, Kansas State and a few other offers, and that will show you much more than his current ranking does. As of now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Walthour favors the local Bulldogs. So, if Ohio State wants to be the eventual landing spot for Hinesville native, they will have some catching up to do.
The other recipient of a Buckeye offer yesterday was ‘19 safety Daxton Hill from Booker T. Washington (OK).

Despite the lone Crystal Ball prediction going to Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State, the 6-foot, 182-pounder already has some options under his belt. Hill has already received offers from programs like Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU and Texas. It’s a fairly safe bet to say that Hill is going to be one of the more highly touted players in next year’s cycle and definitely one of the better players on the defensive side of the ball. The very early grade on Hill from 247Sports pegs him as the 29th overall player in the class, the second best safety, and the second highest graded player from Oklahoma.
Smith hits Georgia
Sticking to the script of next year’s cycle, Ohio State sent wide receivers coach Zach Smith down to Georgia on Wednesday, and one of his stops was to Frederica Academy in Saint Simons Island, Ga.

Obviously, the two big names to look for here are ‘19 wide receiver Jashawn Sheffield and ‘19 athlete Jaylin Simpson. Both hold offers from OSU, but other big time programs like Florida State have entered the fray.
If you have been following the Buckeyes pursuit of these talented Knights, you would know that Ohio State is all-in on trying to get these two in Columbus, Ohio. Combining the fact that Smith visited on Wednesday, and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day checking on the two just 10 days ago, the Buckeyes are leaving no stone unturned.
With that being said, it looks like the Buckeyes are gonna primarily battle with Florida State in these recruitments — a battle that is becoming all too familiar within the past few years.
