Ohio State plays host to 4-star point guard during upset win over Iowa

A 2017 standout checked out Ohio State over the weekend, and the timing couldn't have been better.
Thousands of screaming Ohio State fans weren't the only ones in Columbus for the Buckeyes' come-from-behind win over No. 8 Iowa, as a few highly recruited hoopers also made the trek to Value City Arena. Headlining the list of recruits in attendance on Sunday evening was Cleveland East Tech standout junior point guard Markell Johnson.
Johnson, a 6'1, 170-pound, four-star prospect, earned his offer from Thad Matta's crew in late January. Although the Buckeyes are relatively new to Markell's recruiting party, many in the scene believe the Buckeyes could now be the team to beat out for his commitment. The 17th point guard and 64th overall prospect in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, programs such as Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Dayton are just a few of the other schools trying to keep the 2017 prospect out of the Scarlet and Gray.
One of the more exciting basketball recruits in the state of Ohio, Johnson has played a huge role in leading his East Tech squad to an impressive 20-3 overall record so far this season, averaging nearly 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists a contest.
Also visiting OSU on Sunday was 2018 forward Kevin Easley. A three-star prospect from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, the 6'6 Easley has yet to receive a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes, but does have offers currently on the table from Butler, Cincinnati, Indiana, Purdue, Temple, and other programs.

Following in the footsteps of his soon-to-be Ohio State teammates Marcus Williamson and Isaiah Pryor, future Buckeye defensive tackle Haskell Garrett was selected to participate in this summer's The Opening, after standing out among the talent on hand at the regional camp held in Los Angeles, California on Sunday.
One of nine prospects picked for the annual event, the 6'2 Bishop Gorman (NV) standout is joined on the list by wide out Tyjon Lindsey and defensive back Darnay Holmes both Buckeye targets.

Next weekend another group of talented recruits will have a chance to get to the Opening. Taking over a different city every week, the regional camp will head back to the Sunshine State and invade Miami.
Future Buckeyes dominate Rivals camp
The Opening Regional in Los Angeles wasn't the only camp Ohio State commits and targets dominated over the weekend. On Saturday during the Rivals camp in Orlando, OSU defensive back pledges Isaiah Pryor and Marcus Williamson turned heads.
While some believe Pryor could end up at linebacker on the college level, he was named the defensive back MVP of the camp for his outstanding performance. Williamson might have lost the MVP award to his IMG Academy (FL) teammate Pryor, but the Westerville native still showed off why he is considered one of the most elite cornerback prospects in the country.
Just like Pryor and Williamson did on Saturday, a potential Buckeye shone during the Miami Rivals camp on Sunday. Longtime OSU lean and four-star stud Trevon Grimes was named the wide receiver MVP after displaying his skills on the field.
Rivals caught up with the St. Thomas Aquinas standout, and had him break down the latest with his recruitment. Is Ohio State still the flat-out leader to land his commitment?
