Game Thread Ohio State @ Purdue - 10/20/18, 7:30PM (ABC)

I am because I have seen the rest of the country play and no one is above a shit week. I also remember this team getting their heads out of their asses post-Iowa.

But not a team that has had their heads up their asses much of the season. This just isn't about the Purdue game. And I think that is what is getting lost here.

Yes, the result sucked, just like the Iowa game did last year. But the problems that contine to resurface and show their ugly face game after game have manifested into bigger issues that we have discussed and feared that they would be exposed against a better team and it would eventually cost us. Just didn't think it would be Purdue.... and not in this manner:

1. What started as an inability to pick up short yardage has developed into a complete inability to run the ball and lack of confidence and fight in the OL. They look soft. The continuous RPO run game with absolutely no threat of the QB run. I sense frustration from the RB's. Think they are trying to hit a HR instead of taking what is there leading to 3 yard runs instead of 5 yard runs bc of lack of success in run game and splitting carries.

2. What started as LB's not tracking the ball, not coming downhill to attack ball carriers and not filling their gaps has become LB's playing at the LOS, getting caught up in the wash, lost in pass coverage, still not filling their gaps, can't tackle, and still look absolutely lost half the time.

3. What started as the DB's simply not being able to find the ball in the air (corners) and committing PI's with some poor tackling angles (safties) in the run game has manifested into not being able to cover the slant, getting caught out of position, poor tackling, getting beat even more off press coverage, more PI's and continued poor tackling angles....... and so on and so on.

Problems aren't getting fixed but more problems are arising. And the dumb penalities at crucial times of the game are an absolute killer.

I could go on and on. getting angry just thinking about it.

Ugh. I’m so tired of reading this stuff. You think he’s the only coach who shows disappointment when a play doesn’t work? Maybe the “problem” with his demeanor is that people over analyze the shit out of an elite CFB coach being upset at bad performances.

I don't know man. Usually I'm on board with you but between the Smith press conferences, some of his post-game, early week, and mid-week pressers, and sideline look of disbelief...... he seems bothered and disinterested. I miss the fiery Urban. He hasn't had it since the suspension. I think there is more to it than just fans over analyzing every facial expression he makes.

If Clemson, ND, and Bama finish undefeated they still need a 4th team.

Pac 12 - no one left
B12 - maybe Texas or OK
B10 - tOSU or SCum

Where things get sad if LSU beats Bama and then Bama sneaks in with LSU.

So tOSU still has a chance. Lots of football left.

Why even worry about the playoff at this point? This team would lose by 40+ to Alabama currently.

The defense needs to put together something that even remotely resembles a coherent unit and the oline needs to start getting enough push to where anything over 3 yards on the ground isnt a small miracle before we should even begin thinking about getting back into the mix of things.

Warriner didn't promote himself, and he didn't fire himself for giving himself too much responsibility. That shit is ALL on Urban. He didn't replace his OC. he promoted two position coaches.

Let's talk about all the MENSA jokes. Does anyone on this board REALLY think that Ohio State could beat Texas next week? I sure don't. UT is trending upward. The same cannot be said about the Buckeyes.

Meyer had made some good hires. He's also made some COLLOSALLY bad hires. I used to talk shit about Tressel and Jim Bollman.

Forget about Zach Smith for half a moment, even though Zach Smith was an absolutely TERRIBLE hire. Fucking nepotism.

Greg Strudawa was A TERRIBLE hire. He's a "friend.' fuck this shit. It's not family. It's business.

Billy Davis? This dude has failed at every job he's ever had. But he was in Urban's wedding.

FUCK THIS GUY. AND FUCK URBAN FOR HIRING THIS GUY.

Urban has got to go.
Warinner wasn't dragged kicking and screaming to the Co-OC position. If he had told Urban he'd rather just coach the OL, he'd still be doing that. Everything I've ever heard was that he was looking to move up.

You're fucking insane if you want to fire Urban Meyer.

I think it’s straight up wishful thinking for anything to change this season. It’s already week going on week 9 and we bottomed our to a .500 team. If there is slight improvement, fine. But I doubt a dwarf gets excited about growing an inch.

If LSU beats Bama, Bama goes on to win out and gets in. LSU has a rematch with Georgia and loses to Georgia and UGA gets in. And then they sneak in LSU because of ‘quality losses’ and then you have 3 SECSECSEC teams in because well SEC.

SKULL SESSION: JEFF BROHM BELIEVES IN THE BUCKEYES, DRAFT STOCK STAYS STRONG FOR PROJECTED FIRST ROUNDERS AND DEVIER POSEY OWNS THE CFL

AT LEAST SOMEONE BELIEVES! Folks are hopping of the Buckeye bandwagon with the quickness after Saturday's debacle but fear not, the Local Team has a new backer: Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm.

Brohm used a substantial portion of his time on the Big Ten Coaches Teleconference to give the Buckeyes a rousing and inspiring pep talk, which is always appreciated.

Transcribed by my good pal Colin Hass-Hill, who you should all follow on Twitter dot com:

“I actually think they’re a very talented football team, and I actually think they have very good coaches that have been there been there and done that. Sometimes you have a game, a lot of times throughout the course of the year, you’re going to have at least one game where it just doesn’t happen.”

...

“They probably need to shore up giving up some big plays, but I think they have the ability to do that. I could foresee them running the table from here on out. I know that’s hard for people to say now because you suffer a loss. They did the same thing last year and they bounced back and they played very well. Really, it’s about leaders on the field stepping forward, the coaches doing their part. I know they can do it. I wouldn’t want to play them again.”

"I know they can do it" absolutely slays me. It sounds like something a team mom says about her son's mediocre rec baseball team before a big game she knows damn well they're about to get run ruled.

The audio version of those responses is even hilarious because it sounds like Brohm is a little hesitant, as if he isn't quite sure he should even be saying what he's saying, but he just goes right ahead and says it all anyway.

Brohm seems like a good dude, and from the sound of it, he genuinely thinks Ohio State was the better and more talented team even though his team won by 29, they just weren't in a position to win the game.

Just saw a crazy stat that made me think of you guys. Tua has thrown 75 times in the last 4 games. Haskins threw 73 times Saturday night. That tells me you guys need to balance in more runs. I know it is hard to run when playing from behind like that. Main thing is I just hope the Buckeyes get it figured out. I thought you might be one of the few teams that could give Bama a game. Now I'm not so sure. Someone needs to beat them.

It's hard to run when you struggle to get anything over 3 yards on the ground to begin with.
