With under a week until National Signing Day, Urban Meyer and his staff are doing everything they can to secure their place for a top national class.

Only five days remain until the 2016 recruiting class is secured and National Signing Day is complete. However, before the Ohio State staff shifts their full attention for 2017 and beyond, they're still hard at work on the road looking to cement a top-ranked national recruiting class.

2017 ATH lands OSU offer

While the 2016 class is receiving most of the Ohio State football staff's attention and rightfully so, that doesn't mean Urban Meyer can't look ahead to 2017. Yesterday, Bo Melton of Cedar Creek High School in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey was the latest to receive an offer from the Buckeyes. Made public via Bo's twitter account, the 2017 ATH is currently ranked by 247sports as a 3-star and is listed as the 10th-best player in his home state.

Standing at 6'0, 180 pounds, Bo currently plays running back, but has the size and speed to play all over the field. With seven current offers from the likes of Rutgers, Michigan, Boston College, Kentucky, Old Dominion, Villanova, and now Ohio State, look for more offers to pile in as time goes by. As of right now, the home team of Rutgers leads the 247sports Crystal Ball predictions, but there's still plenty of time for Ohio State and others to become real players for his services.

Very Blessed to receive my 7th offer from THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY !!! pic.twitter.com/30jtVwz6sJ

Rodjay Burns update

The most recent commit to the Buckeyes' 2016 recruiting class is Louisville, Kentucky's Rodjay Burns. Knowing Ohio State has a need for bodies in the defensive secondary, Urban Meyer knew Burns was a prospect that could really help the state of the defensive backs. While Burns is currently committed to Ohio State, the Trinity Christian product was once committed to the hometown Louisville Cardinals for some time, giving them his pledge back in March.

After decommitting and flipping to the Buckeyes earlier this week, Louisville is still in full pursuit of the 6'2, 175-pound cornerback. Knowing the athleticism Rodjay brings to the field, yesterday, three Louisville coaches decided to make a house call doing their best to try and flip him back to the Cardinals. While Louisville was the long-time choice for Burns, the Buckeyes are the ones who will more than likely receive his signature come next Wednesday.

Source says Trinity’s Rodjay Burns expecting 3 Louisville coaches at in-home visit today. Can Louisville flip him back from Ohio State?

Wallace to visit OSU

On Tuesday of this week, Ohio State sent out a surprising offer in terms of timing to K'Von Wallace of Highland Springs, Virginia. The extremely under-rated defensive back saw offers come in from Clemson, Michigan State, and Ohio State within two days, which tells you just how talented Wallace really is. Currently committed to Cincinnati, Urban Meyer and his staff needed Wallace to at least visit Columbus to really have a chance in landing him for the 2016 class. Yesterday, via his Twitter account, that visit now looks to be happening this coming weekend. While the Buckeyes are still in the running for other prospects such as Damar Hamlin, Carlos Becker, and Jordan Fuller, Ohio State clearly wants to fill the need at defensive back.

I am on my Clemson visit right now and I'm visiting Ohio state this weekend!

Hansard heading to Columbus

A name that sees constant Ohio State attention is 2017 defensive tackle prospect Fred Hansard of Princeton, New Jersey. The Buckeyes have recruited the Garden State extremely hard historically and presently. With an obvious need at defensive tackle, Hansard is one Larry Johnson would love to have on his defensive line.

While Fred has heard from the Buckeyes numerous times, yesterday via his Twitter account he let it be known that Ohio State was back in town once again visiting him at school. Also, Hansard took it one step forward and mentioned again that he will be visiting Ohio State this coming weekend for the all important junior weekend. Knowing Hansard's talent, look for this weekend to be a key piece in continuing to build a strong relationship with New Jersey's second-ranked prospect in the 2017 class.

hio State stopped by again today, can't wait for the weekend !!! #GoBucks #Shhh

Hamlin has in-home visit

One of the remaining top targets for Ohio State is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 4-star cornerback Damar Hamlin. As we learned yesterday, Hamlin has plans of deciding on his college destination this coming Monday, February 1. While he will be deciding between Pitt, Penn State, and Ohio State, last night, Urban Meyer and some of the defensive staff were able to have an in-home visit with the country's 14th-best cornerback prospect. According to Damar himself, all things went well with the Buckeyes.

Quick Hits:

  • One-time OSU commit and current undecided 2017 prospect Bruce Judson was visited yesterday by Ohio State running back coach Tony Alford at Florida's Cocoa High School.
  • Ohio's current top-ranked 2018 prospect, Jaelen Gill of Westerville South, will be visiting Ohio State this weekend.
  • Wayne High School prospect L'Christian Smith of Huber Heights, Ohio received offers from Michigan, Penn State, and Purdue yesterday. Ohio State could be next in line.
