With a mass exodus of Buckeyes leaving for the NFL Draft, Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaches get a head start in the recruiting world.

An offseason after a successful campaign brings with it a mass exodus of current Buckeyes. It happened last year and it will happen again next year. But this is no surprise to Urban Meyer, who has learned to deal with this problem at multiple programs. The solution to this problem is recruiting and Meyer is one of the best recruiters in all of college football.

With this in mind, it is never too early for Meyer and the Buckeyes to begin recruiting top-tier talent. This is the case with four-star WR Jermaine Eskridge. With still two-plus years of high school left before Eskridge transitions to the college level, it is too early to project where he will play. However, on Monday he narrowed down his list of schools he is interested in. The Buckeyes made the cut.

Eskridge listed Ohio State in his top five, along with Miami, Florida State, North Carolina and Florida. The one-time Kentucky commit has seemed to have moved on from the Wildcats and is focusing on his home state of Florida, along with the Tarheels and Buckeyes.

Standing at 6'3, 180 lbs., Eskridge is a big receiver with sure hands. He won't be a deep threat, as he isn't the fastest receiver, but he will have success playing a role similar to Michael Thomas. Like Thomas, Eskridge is a great target for a QB on third down because he has the ability to be physical with DB's and can complete tough catches in traffic. He is above-average at run blocking and this skill will only improve in the next two years.

Eskridge has yet to make a visit to Columbus, but it is early in his recruitment and he is bound to make time for one of his top five schools.

Buckeyes offer FSU OLB commit

Four-star OLB VanDarius Cowan received an offer from Ohio State on Monday. Cowan, currently rated as the No. 6 OLB of the 2017 class according to 247 Sports, committed to the Florida State Seminoles just over a week ago, but his commitment to the Seminoles has been that of a roller coaster.

Cowan first committed to the Seminoles in June of 2015 but a few months later in October, he decided to decommit from the program to reassure himself he was making the right choice. Fast-forward two months forward to December, and he was once again a Seminole.

Given that Cowan still has a year of high school left before he has to enroll at a school, anything is possible. The offer from the Buckeyes is the first update in his recruitment since his commitment to Florida State and he has yet to visit Columbus. However, he did seem pretty excited about the offer and a visit during the coming season would not be a surprise.

Sibley excited to make 'impact' at OSU

Four-star RB commit Todd Sibley will be a member of the Ohio State football team next season, and if he has any say in the matter, he will make sure Buckeye Nation knows his name in his first year. Sibley told Luke Stampini of 247Sports that he expects Meyer to give him the opportunity to make an impact for the Buckeyes.

"I think coach Meyer sees me as a player that can definitely make an impact later on as I continue to grow and mature."

Sibley played a vital role in earning Archbishop Hoban the State Championship this year, along with his teammate and fellow Buckeye commit, Danny Clark. Sibley still has one more year of high school left before he plays a game for Ohio State, but the future seems to be bright.

Quick Hits

  • Ohio State gained a preferred walk-on commitment Monday. LB Hayden Jester of Cincinnati LaSalle announced his commitment over Twitter. Jester is currently teammates with another Buckeye commit in punter Drue Chrisman, who celebrated his teammate's decision.
  • Multiple Buckeye commits and targets were involved in Monday's practice for the Army Bowl, including four-star Buckeye WR commit Austin Mack, who showed off his catching ability with this one-handed, over the shoulder grab.
  • 2016 four-star safety Nigel Warrior eliminated the Buckeyes Monday from his list of schools he is interested in. It is now down to Tennessee, Alabama, LSU and Georgia fighting for Nigel's talents.
  • Buckeye four-star RB commit and early enrollee, Antonio Williams, has left social media early. He has done so to remain completely focused on his time at Ohio State. Williams seems to be willing to put in the work to become a star for the Buckeyes.
