Ohio State will find out its fate with Damar Hamlin sooner rather than later. Plus, a new offer goes out to one of Virginia's best in 2017.

Hamlin decision on deck

When it comes to the Ohio State 2016 recruiting class, it is no secret that the plan is to add one or two more defensive backs to the fold with National Signing Day quickly approaching. One of those possibilities comes in the form of '16 CB Damar Hamlin, a longtime Buckeye target that hails from Central Catholic (PA).

Ohio State will find out on Monday if Columbus will be his collegiate destination as the 6'1, 175-pounder announced on Twitter that he will be making his decision in just five days.

I've decided that I will make a decision on where I will go to college Monday Febuary 1st, at 6pm!

The decision will come down to three programs -- Ohio State, Penn State, or Pittsburgh. Will the Buckeyes be able to overcome the possibility of Hamlin playing in his hometown? Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, while sticking with his Pittsburgh prediction, did mention that he could see Ohio State being the pick and that the Scarlet and Gray may very well be the team to beat.

For now, my person opinion is that it will be Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers who get the verbal commitment from the in-state talent. Whoever lands Hamlin will be adding a four-star prospect to their class. The Pittsburgh native is also graded as the 149th prospect in the country, the 14th-best cornerback, and the 3rd-best player in his state.

Staff sees Wallace

Speaking of defensive backs, if Ohio State was to miss out on Hamlin and '16 ATH Jordan Fuller, could '16 SAF K'Von Wallace fill the void in the secondary? The Buckeyes did just extend an offer to the Highland Springs (VA) standout and current Cincinnati commit.

On Wednesday, Ohio State had an in-home visit with the sleeper prospect as head coach Urban Meyer, cornerbacks/special teams coach Kerry Coombs, and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Luke Fickell all checked in on the 6'0, 172-pounder.

Surely when looking at the ranking of Wallace, many may think this would be a bit of a reach. However, the offer sheet always should be the main focus. Yes, he is currently graded as a two-star. However, watch the film and realize that Arizona, Clemson, Maryland, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, and of course the Buckeyes have now offered him in the last ten days.

Vilain grabs OSU offer

Much like Wallace, there was another Virginia prospect in the news on Wednesday for the Buckeyes. '17 DE Luiji Vilain, a four-star talent from Episcopal (VA), was on the receiving end of an offer from Ohio State. The Buckeyes joined Boston College, Minnesota, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, South Florida, and Virginia Tech on his offer sheet. Much like Ohio State, the Golden Eagles also delivered an offer to the 6'3, 250-pounder yesterday.

Vilain currently sits just inside the Top 150 in his class at No. 149. He also grades out as the nation's seventh-best weak-side defensive end. Lastly, the Alexandria native is the sixth-best player in Virginia behind five outstanding talents, four of whom already hold Ohio State offers at this time.

Quick Hits

  • Clearwater (FL) Head Coach Don Mesick told Lynden Ostrander of the Tampa Tribune that Ohio State stopped by on Wednesday. It was likely that '17 RB Adarius Lemons was the prospect who the Buckeyes wanted to check in on.
  • Ohio State added a preferred walk-on commitment from '16 OG Nate Brock of Olentangy Liberty (OH). The 6'4, 255-pounder was receiving interest from Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan despite never landing a full-ride opportunity throughout the recruiting cycle. You can check out Brock in action here.
  • According to Land-Grant Holy Land and 270Hoops' own Zach Fleer, the Buckeyes evaluated '17 PG/SG Parker Stewart on Tuesday. The Union City (TN) prospect has offers from Florida, Kansas State, Memphis, Nebraska, and more under his belt at this time.
