Game Thread Ohio State @ Rutgers, 09/30/17 @ 7:30 ET (BTN)

It's been frustrating the past few weeks because I haven't been able to watch much of the games live. Honestly, I'm still not sure what to make of the team after playing Army, UNLV, and Rutgers. Those are all bad teams. Still, after watching the replays and highlights, I like the improvement I'm seeing from younger players like Victor and it makes me hopeful that this team can make a decent jump and be more competitive than they were at the end of last year.

During the show, they made the comment that Rutgers scoring defense had improved from 37.5 ppg last year to 18 ppg this year. Problem is, this year's scoring defense for them is about to hit the part of the schedule--i.e., B1G play--that made their scoring defense stats so bad last year.

Well in their defense they didn't get blown out by Washington so things were looking up. But apparently we hurt 2 of their top 4 DB's and Nebraska hurt one so maybe they were better until then.

Exactly. Rutgers may lose every remaining game this year. Wins against 3 teams outside the top 100 prove vrry little. They help build confidenceand bring things together, but they don't really show how these players will perform against elite teams.

It is encouraging. The Bucks look better, but it is hard to say how mych of that is due to the level of competition.

Kind of like in 14 really when we beat a lot of bad teams after the early loss... much like that year we will have to prove it against a top 10 team late in the year.

I tend to think we will be better against PSU but will still struggle. Not sure what that means for a win but I'd be shocked if we just suck like the past few big games

Penn State isn't nearly as good as any team we've fallen flat against. They're not Clemson by any stretch of the imagination.

Very true... I found it positive that IU had they not self destructed would've faired pretty well. We were much better against IU where it mattered most which is up front. We ran the ball better then pedo and we stopped the run cold which again ped couldn't do.

Our weakness is our pass defense but it just feels like every game these guys ratchet down even further.

Also did anyone else notice an absence of Sheffield not playing as much? I also noticed Okudah was back into his #1 jersey which may tell us readijg between the lines that they have in fact started to lessen Sheffield, pulled Okudah from as much special teams (the reason for changing numbers I presume), and have started to sprinkle in Okudah
