Vonn Bell brings confidence and a knack for the big play to the NFL.
Vonn Bell will be bringing his big-play ability and his range in coverage to the [TEAM], after he was selected No. #61 overall in the second round.
One could argue that the Rossville, GA native kicked off Urban Meyer's recruiting dominance at Ohio State when he committed to the Buckeyes on National Signing Day, signing with them over multiple SEC schools. His big-play ability shined as a true freshman, when he picked off Clemson quarterback Tahj Boyd with one hand in the red zone during the 2014 Orange Bowl. His knack for the big moment showed again, when he picked off Alabama quarterback Blake Simms on the goal line in the 2015 Sugar Bowl.
The former 5-star is a natural free safety who played more in the box at Ohio State, but will be a pure free safety in the NFL. He has the range and athleticism to play centerfield in Cover-1 and can match up in the slot. He is not going to play in the box often in the NFL, but he is a willing and above average tackler in run support.
The 5'11", 199 lb safety was unable to run at the NFL Combine due to a hamstring injury, but he did finish with 16 reps on the bench press. He healed up and was able to compete at Ohio State's pro day, where he ran a 4.51 40-yard dash and jumped 30 1/2 inches on the vertical.
Overall, Vonn Bell is the perfect free safety for today's pass-happy NFL, with his ability to roam in the secondary from sideline-to-sideline.
