Another top recruit will go under the lights in Columbus

Eskridge in for FNL

The list of top prospects set to visit Ohio State for their annual Friday Night Lights camp this month increased by one. Class of 2018 athlete Jermaine Eskridge (Tampa, FL / Jefferson) confirmed to 247Sports’ Bill Kurelic that he would indeed make the trip up from the Sunshine State to be in Columbus, Ohio for the event.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder told Kurelic that he spoke with new Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano early Wednesday morning to confirm the visit plans.

Eskridge is currently graded out as a four-star prospect in next year’s recruiting class and is listed as the 130th overall player. The Tampa native is also slotted as the seventh best athlete in the country and the 21st best player in the always talented state of Florida.

Eskridge was formerly a Kentucky commitment but backed off of his pledge to the Wildcats back in November of last year. For where he stands with the Buckeyes, Eskridge does have an offer from Ohio State. Additionally, Eskridge holds offers from over 45 other schools, including Alabama, Georgia and the Florida Trio (Miami, Florida and Florida State).

We will see if the Buckeyes can make a move with the Floridian during the visit later this month.

Martell briefly talks OSU

In an interview with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, class of 2017 quarterback Tate Martell (Las Vegas, NV / Bishop Gorman) opened up on a couple of things including recruiting and his ultimate departure from Texas A&M, who he was committed to for about seven months before making the pledge to be a Buckeye.

Martell always seemed to had realized that he would be a Buckeye well before he made things official with Head Coach Urban Meyer and Ohio State back in June.

Wiltfong noted in the conversation with Martell that the 5-foot-10, 203-pounder knew he would be playing his collegiate career in Columbus. Then Martell made a visit, his first visit to the campus in March. “That was the school I wanted to go and when I went there I was blown away,” Martell stated to Wiltfong.

While he raved about the visit to 247Sports, you just knew the five-star prospect was genuinely intrigued by the Buckeyes when he set up a return visit to the campus. After that visit in June, the rest is history. Ohio State was able to seal the deal with the nations top ranked dual-threat QB and now has a major centerpiece to this years recruiting class. The great thing about Martell for the Buckeyes is that he is actively recruiting other top tier prospects to join him and has even already succeeded by helping lock up offensive guard Wyatt Davis last month.
